Why doesn't Turkey drop Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

...and Cyprus had to take the side of a foreign Pope.

Look, just enjoy your holiday and stay out of the politics here. There’s no such thing as a shortcut to the Cyprus problem so forget it.

Which part of California do you live in, JB and which parts have you already seen, if you don't mind me asking.

It's a little unusual to have Cuban Americans all the way in the West Coast since most seem to stay as close to Cuba as possible, by living in Florida. Having said that, I was in a Cuban Restaurant in San Rafael couple of years ago, just north of San Francisco.!

okay JB, trying to get any infromation thats unbias on the forum is impossible. each side has their pros, and cons.

if you want the truth then let a fellow Greek Cypriot American tell you. Cyprus has been around for ages with many invasions, occupations, and other things like that. but to answer your question for the current GC(Greek Cypriot)-TC(Turkish Cypriot) dispute is complicated. Greeks and Turks have never got along since probably ancient times. And Both sides claim they have equal rights to the island because they both claim that they have had an ethnical presence on the island for many years. but the cause of the invasion was because of an attack on the Cypriot government by Greek extremists from Greece. they sided with EOKA(The Cypriot national guard) and tried to over throw the president at the time (Makarios)and make it part of Greece(also known as ENOSIS). Turkey, seeing that their fellow Turkish Cypriots were being attacked, sent in 200,000 troops to protect their people. but Turkey then siezed the northern part of Cyprus and established their own, illegal government which only Turkey acknowledges. Turkey still occupies the island militarily to this day. i hope that answers your question, as i believe this explanition to be unbias. i may not have gotten everything, but that should help you a little.

The link that I gave you explains the reason Turkey invaded. Granted, it is a very brief overview, but as you're just here on "vacation" I thought that was all you wanted. If you want to go into detail, then search the internet, buy a few books, like Get Real said, there is no way you're going to learn and understand it all from one link or summary.

People can comment on whether the link is biased or not but at the end of the day it's all true.
