How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Probably the same reason as to why Turkey has not changed driving on the left to driving on the right in the north. You would think that since the majority in the north are from Right Hand drive country (even though some may have never driven a car before), they would have changed the driving rules by now, which may suggest that Turkey is only on the island until she uses it to get into the EU since 2004 when the RoC became a member and was never serious about having two sovereign states in Cyprus since 1974, so don't expect the name "Cyprus" to be deleated from any title. Poor NeoPartitionist still believe in getting a recognition state in the north when Turkey in the background is preventing it all from ever happening all along.!

I want all the NeoPartitionist to raise their hands and tell me that they have heard Turkey at least once say that they want two sovereign states in Cyprus, other than a Confederation, which would still be one country .!

Anyone.???????

When every attempt for a peacful and satisfactory to all fail, Turkey and TCs look for recognition for their state and Turkey supports TCs. When international community mediate and convince Turkey to try one more time for a satisfactory to all solution, Turkey and TCs exert one more time but there's no sense of trying one more time if the current talks fail to bring a solution satisfactory to all concerned parties.

Was your hand raised Insan, because you did not answer my question.!

The question was, has Turkey EVER asked for the north to be recognised as an independent and sovereign state.?

You are still under the illusion they have not thought about it instead of accepting it is something they cannot do! If they attempted such a thing, it would precipitate a reaction they could not cope with.

As Kikapu has pointed out, the most Turkey can do now is wind down what has turned out to be a temporary arrangement. There is no point ruffling any more feathers ...

The Quest for Recognition
Most Turkish Cypriot foreign policy efforts were focused on achieving recognition of the "TRNC" and explaining the Turkish Cypriot position on the settlement process. The "TRNC" had one Embassy, in Ankara, two consulates, in Istanbul and Mersin, and five representation missions, in London, Washington, New York, Brussels, and Islamabad. These missions did not have diplomatic status. In 1990 there were reports that additional missions might be opened in Abu Dhabi, Canada, Australia, Italy, and Germany.

The Islamic nations were the key target of Turkish Cypriot recognition efforts. In wooing Islamic support, Turkish Cypriot officials emphasized the religious aspect of the Cyprus conflict and stressed the importance of Muslim solidarity. Meetings of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), in which Turkey played an increasingly active role in the 1980s, were an important focus for the "TRNC." The OIC passed several resolutions urging economic support and cultural contact with the Turkish Cypriots, but stopped short of embracing the recognition issue. Many Arab Islamic countries had ambivalent relations with Turkey, because of the legacy of the Ottoman Empire, and also because they wished to maintain good relations with the Republic of Cyprus, which served as a financial center and entrepôt for Middle Eastern business activity. These reservations inhibited the "TRNC" in seeking to achieve its goals in the Islamic world. Among these countries, Pakistan, Jordan, and Bangladesh were considered the strongest supporters of the Turkish Cypriot cause.

Of course they asked the recognition of TRNC but as i previously mentioned; at the right time when all their attempts and efforts to find a satisfactory to all type of solution failed.

No One Can Deny Reality Of Two States In Cyprus, Minister Cicek

Published: 2/28/2009

GAZIMAGUSA - Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Cemil Cicek, said Friday "no one can deny the reality of two peoples, two democracies and two states in Cyprus".
Cemil Cicek arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Friday to attend a graduation ceremony at the Eastern Mediterranean University (DAU).
Speaking at the ceremony, Cicek said that the DAU has a special meaning for him as his son graduated from this university 12 years ago.
"The DAU has provided important services for the educational and cultural lives of both the TRNC and Turkey in the past three decades. The DAU helped educate thousands of young individuals and everyone appreciates its successes. Universities are one of the most important life vessels of the TRNC," Cicek said.
-"REALITIES CAN NOT BE DENIED"-

Touching on the Cyprus problem, Cicek said that "the two peoples in Cyprus must cooperate based on respect for the laws of each other. The continuing negotiations must be based on this principle of respecting each other`s laws. No one can deny the presence of two peoples, two separate democracies and two separate states in Cyprus. If a peace is to be established, it has to be established within such perimeters".
"No one should expect the Turkish Cypriots to give up self-governance. Turkey and the TRNC have worked for years and continue to work for a permanent solution in Cyprus," Cicek stressed.
"We are strongly against all efforts to relate Turkey`s EU membership to the topic of the Cyprus issue. The TRNC symbolizes the will of Turkish Cypriots for a free life," Cicek noted.
TRNC`s struggle in history is a matter of pride for all of us, Cicek said.
The TRNC has proven itself as a source of human rights, rule of law, democracy that contributes to regional peace and stability, Cicek said.
As Turkey, we try to assist Turkish Cypriots in all fields, Cicek said. "This is a state policy of Turkey," Cicek underlined.
We will continue to extend all assistance for the peace and welfare of the Turkish Cypriots, Cicek said.
The solution, peace, stability and tranquility in Cyprus would be possible with the TRNC`s getting stronger economically and socially, Cicek also said.

Hi Zan and welcome back.

I hope your brother-in-law is doing well.!

Zan, really.!! The article you had posted is a laughable gibberish at best and a complete nonsense at worse, but put all that aside, I repeat what I've said, and the Turkish Minister backs me up, that Turkey has never asked for the north to become an independent and sovereign state. At best she has asked for a Confederation State in this article (and the Annan Plan since 2004) but under one country, even though it was not spelled out.!

Still don’t get it?

If and when you all STOP from inviting Greece and Turkey over, they won’t come anymore!

What has any of this to do with Turkey being unable to drop the name of Cyprus from their constructs?

Perhaps Unkie GR fails why you ask such a useless and mundane question.

Considering your attempts to come up with an effective answer, were the most useless and mundane, I can only conclude the concepts are beyond your appreciation ...

Or, perhaps you merely wish to downplay the importance of names!

I would say the (forced) resignation by Turkey to continue with the usage of the name Cyprus (which they do not apparently recognise  ) to label their people (Settlers and Turks of ...), or in naming their illegally held territories, merely confirms their impotence towards reaching full expansionism, which was the prime underlying aim behind the invasion and colonisation of Cyprus ...

How about Greeksandhalfgreeksfuckoffistan republic of cyprus.

How about Turksandotherillegalturkishsettlersfuckoffey?

Alright, am new here (Forum and Country)...
I just want to understand what's really going on here between the north and the south..

You can call me the stupid American i don't want to offend anyone but I never heard of Cyprus till my buddy told me about it..Since arriving two days ago I found this place to be a hidden paradise.

But after reading some of these threads I notice a sense of hate between to sides...

So please correct me if am wrong....Turkey invaded back in the day and killed thousands of Cypriots and the Cypriots hit them back. An eye for an eye right....

Can you compare the situation here to the Native American and how they were killed and kicked off their home land..(am not Native American am an American who's parent fled Cuba in the early sixties)

Do Turks walk around Limassol with issues and the same for Cypriots do the wonder around up north without any issues?

I just want some insight on the country I am visiting for a few weeks...

Oh yeah regardless of political drama you guys have a beautiful island that you should be proud of..California ain't even this nice.....

The Cyprus problem is a modern day anomaly, where Turkey has ethnically cleansed the indigenous population and altered the demographics of a sovereign nation. Nicosia is the only divided capital in the world. All this happened in 1974 and between 160,000-200,000 people are still denied the right to return to their homes. (This would have been the equivalent of about 110 million people in the USA). Have a read:
