Why doesn't Turkey drop Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Sure it can bully us few thousand GCs by changing our village names.

But it cannot touch the name Cyprus because of its international and historical significance (Shakespearean scholars, breath easy  ).

What's more, by referring to "Turks of" ... Cyprus, it recognises its significance and sovereignty ...

So you do know the answer!!! Why bother asking?

I wanted to see what anyone else thought, to see if I was wrong. And since you and insan are clueless and gave up without coming up with an answer, you said:

I took that as your submission to ignorance, so I gave you the answer ... I hope you and insan have learnt something ... Turkey does recognise Cyprus' sovereignty; it knows the Turks do not belong here, and it will not make any drastic changes because it is all transient and it will soon have to take its "Turks out of Cyprus"!

Oracle stop making galimatias please. What Turkey and TRNC don't recognize is the so-called RoC; not the Cyprus island... There's no need to change the name of Cyprus island because we already pronounce and write it different than Greeks, GCs and all other foreigners. We say Kıbrıs, Kıprıs or Gıbrız. OK? now plz go have a shower and try relaxing urself with a special cup of black tea containing some turmeric and ginger powder.

Not it's not OK. It's far too unimaginative and far too similar to the orginal names of Kypros, Gibros and Cyprus etc...

Just get the genius who renamed Tymbou, "Ercan" to have a go. Now there was a fearless guy!

What's wrong with the Turks? Have they gone all soft, all 21st century, all of a sudden?

so says the seer

If Turkey would ever change the given name to Cyprus (not that it will ever happen, I think it will use the name 'ALASYA' . This name (one of the names of ancient Cyprus) has already been Turkified. Used as a surname. Do you like it?

The "trnc" or KKTC can opt for ENOSIS with The Principality of Hutt River!

They both have much in common, and about as much legitimacy...

So what would this new state be called?

Principality of Hutt River and Donktoshland.....

I'm not interested in what the Turks might or might not call Cyprus (that is the subject of The Cypriot's offshoot humorous thread).

What is apparent is that Turkey is powerless to drop the name Cyprus from any of its "claimed" territory because that would take international opposition up to the next level ... It would also be tantamount to full acknowledgement by itself of the illegal invasion and occupation for purely expansionist reasons ....

Turkey is stuck inventing titles/labels ... with one thing in common. They cannot drop the name Cyprus because they realise it is Cypriot sovereign territory ... not Turkish territory!

Quite simple really! Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots recognise the Cyprus that was formed in 1960 and not the "Cyprus" that was torn in two after 1964......To "rebrand" would be a dismissal of that legal state and an opening for the ILLEGAL state that has been rebranded as the "ROC".

There is no need to rebrand the ORIGINAL CYPRUS REPUBLIC.....Only in the mindset of the "ROC" does this hold any advantage (and that of the general public of course).

Thank you gentlemen!!!! :)

I am disappointed with Oracle abandoning her scientific background of research though. She seams unable to ask the right questions when it comes to Cyprob. My heroes seem to be disappearing one by one.
