Reconciliation:a great gesture on tonights news....

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Reconciliation:a great gesture on tonights news....

CYBC 1 had as its leading item a story from 1974 of a T.C. who showed remorse for supposedly killing a G.C. near Lefka. When he discovered that the man had survived after reading a Turkish translation of a book by a G.C. on persons who went missing,he contacted him and the two met in Nicosia initially a month or so ago.Today both men and their familes travelled to the battle site and laid olive wreaths as a gesture of peace before going for a celebratory meal at a nearby seaside restaurant and have become close friends. As the reporter said,if these two men who had been trying to kill each other before can forgive and forget for the sake of Cyprus, think how it could be if thousands of others did the same who did not have any hostile encounters with the other community ???
Despite his other weaknesses,Christophias is a firm believer in G.C and T.C. reconciliation as being a key element in any solution and I fully agree with him on this point.I feel that showing this as the main news item on the state t.v. channel was no co-incidence and reflects a serious change of attitude at the station now the leadership there has changed.
This news item was notably absent on the other private channels such as Mega,Antenna etc. and I think that shows a great deal about how their owners think?

Interesting. Maybe there is some hope for reconciliation, but there is still a lot of mistrust and suspicion to overcome, unfortunately.

Well. considering that I am known on this forum as pro-TRNC, I'm not surprised at your comment.
