This man is a bloody joker

From the Cyprus Mail.

Recession? What recession?

THERE IS no recession but if people keep talking about it, there will be, Finance Minister Charilaos Stavrakis warned yesterday.

Stavrakis was speaking for the first time since figures were released this month showing that Cyprus had technically entered recession following two quarters of negative growth. When asked to comment at the time, the Minister told one newspaper: “I am on holidays. Thank you”.

Yesterday Stavrakis held a news conference where he defended the government’s handling of the economy, saying the continuous negative comments were undermining investor and consumer confidence, and that the government would focus on tackling the revenues shortfall in its 2010 budget.

“It is wrong to talk about recession; there is no recession, there is a significant slowdown triggered from abroad, and the less we talk about such things the better. Continuous references to recession and crisis may well lead to a recession, a bigger slowdown and unemployment,” said Stavrakis.

I know exactly what Stavrakis is on about. Only Cypriots and Australians can understand, because in Cyprus and Australia, there is no recession... 8)

He is on Holiday just like everyone else!

Cyprus Mail is a big joke. My partner is a journalist so I am familiar with all the ricks.

They knew all along he was not reachable, and decided to use it to their advantage.

What a disgrace!

Anyone who denies the truth is a fool whether he is on holiday or not.

Better to wake up to reality than live in a dream world.

Cyprus has nothing to worry about because GDP shrank by only o.6%, and that is an excellent result when compared to all other EU and OECD countries.

In fact, I believe that Australia and Cyprus currently have the strongest economies amongst the OECD.....

The figures don't lie...

Not bad for a little country like Cyprus....We should be proud of ourselves... :D
