Congrats to APOEL for playing serious football for the full 90 minutes and reaping the reward! :D

It goes to show that it’s not about having “world class” players but the whole team being persistent and focused in its goal of denying the opponent the win. Ultimately, even the best of teams becomes demoralized from your relentless denial.

Here are the group D standings:

Team-----------Games-------------------Goals

------------------Pts---P ---W---D---L---Sc---Al
Chelsea---------3-----1----1---0----0---1----0
APOEL-----------1-----1----0---1----0---0----0
Atletico----------1-----1----0---1----0---0----0
Porto------------0-----1----0---0----1---0----1

If, if, if Cyprus wins Sept 30th, can you imagine what the world's press will say?

Lets go APOEL!

Congratulations mate.

This was a fantastic result and if they keep this up, Apoel is a chance of getting through to the next stage.

My prediction of Apoel coming first in the group does not seem so unrealistic now....

The final standings will be as follows:

Apoel
Porto
Athletico Madrid
Chelsea

There's an arrogance and confidence in the team that starts from the manager, the players, the board and the fans which is unbelievable. The team played them straight on and pretended they had never heard of Atletico or the historic staidum they were in. Not many teams can steal points from inside the Vicente Calderon.

Funny to see though how 1,000 apoelistes outsang 40,000 Madrid supporters for the full 90 minutes.

Well the difference in football talent between the so called "minnows" and the football "superpowers" is ever diminishing.

At the end of the day, a game of football is played between 11 players on each side, so anything is possible.

Its great to see some of this Aussie arrogance rubbing off....

This Apoel side would have to be the best team in Cypriot Football history... 8)

You generally place the away fans in the worst corner of the stadium so as not to be heard too much. They need to provide 5% of the stadium to the away team. They wouldn't let anyone under us in case we started throwing things (or people :D ) over.
