Turkish Admiral will not allow Cyprus to drill for oil

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkish Admiral will not allow Cyprus to drill for oil

Postby Lit » Thu Aug 27, 2009 12:39 pm

Why does the Turkish military make political speeches? And on EU member Cyprus no less. Absurd.

The newly appointed Turkish Admiral warned that they will not allow the Republic of Cyprus to drill oil in the Mediterranean Sea

Turkish daily Hürriyet Daily News newspaper online (26.08.09) reported the following:
“Turkey’s new air and navy forces commanders have taken their new posts at consecutive handover ceremonies held late Tuesday and Wednesday.

Due to the retirement of outgoing Gen. Aydoğan Babaoğlu, Gen. Hasan Aksay was appointed as his successor during the Supreme Military Council, or MGK, meeting in early August. Babaoğlu late Tuesday handed over his post to Aksay at a ceremony where top civilian and military brass was present.

In his speech, Gen. Aksay said the Turkish Armed Forces, or TSK, would continue their aerial operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, hideouts and said the military was committed to fighting the PKK until the last terrorist is eliminated.

On Wednesday, Navy Forces Commander Adm. Eşref Uğur Yiğit took his new post as his predecessor Admiral Metin Ataç stepped down. President Abdullah Gül, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chief of General Staff Gen. İlker Başbuğ and other forces commanders were present.

Adm. Yiğit, in his speech, said the Navy Forces would continue to protect Turkey’s rights in its territorial waters and economic zones, making it clear that it won’t allow Greek Cyprus to drill for oil in the Mediterranean Sea.”

I can foresee it now:

But Lit, you haven't supplied us with links. How are we to ever verify these stories as being factual.

Having read the article, i'd say this is malicious reporting. They did say 'protecting their interests in the mediterranean'. The reporter has added his own 'interpretation' on this. The issue of oil drilling was never mentioned. You may be reading betwen the lines, but its best to desist from 'assumptions'.

Muck spreading

This is the reason i noticed all these movements in Salamis navy base outside Piraeus- They are preparing a letter to the admiral!!
What Turks can not undrerstand is that the reaction on economical zone drills will be much different than from the air space violations. Reason is obvius - drills creating permanet owership!!!!The letter is almoast ready to be sent mid Sept early Oct this year.

With so much Church property desecrated in the north, I think the Church has every right to have its say on the occupation.

At least it doesn't practically run the country, like Turkey's military does.

Having talked about running a country, could you remind me what was the job of Makarios and what the hell he was doing in presidential palace? Shit happens when a priest is elected as president.
