Bully boy taxi drivers

Postby cyprusgeoff » Wed Aug 26, 2009 12:18 pm

It seems a shame that the bully boy tactics seem to have paid off in Pafos.

THE PAFOS-based cycle rickshaw firm, Cypshaw, has been forced to suspend operations following alleged physical threats and intimidation from the local Taxi drivers.

To me it seem unbelievable that in the 21st Century and in a member country of the EEC that this sort of behaviour is allowed.

Are they next going to threaten the bus drivers that go to the airport and drivers of private cars meeting friends at the airport haven't escaped rudeness and abuse as well from some of these morons.

Spent 8 days in Coral bay and for the first item in my life i used a bus... strangely it was very frequent and quite cheap aswell. On some occasions buses were even full. Infact in Pafos you can now reach any destination by bus these days... this ofcourse puts a lot of pressure on Taxi Drivers... and rickshaw threatens their income since event if i want a taxi to take me 1km down the tourist area i will still pay 6-7 Eur because 5 is a minimum fare. On such short routs they make most of their income.

They have been fleecing and taking the piss for years now.

I remember taking a taxi from the airport to the hotel costing more than the taxi from the hotel to the airport. Explain that one?

Isn't it an EU rule that taxis should use metres?

I presume the driver was so pleased to see a miserable, whining Brit leaving the country he discounted his normal fare?

Some are I agree   but the Taxi Drivers who most tourists meet for the first time on their arrival here, are ripping tourists off, which them makes them bitter for the rest of their stay never to return, why they are allowed to do this I cannot understand.

From Larnaca you can get a shuttle bus driven by really decent drivers  for a fraction of taking a smelly taxi. Use them they are heaps better. Unfortunately they seem to NOT run to the East as yet  someone in power slipped up there, but as its deemed a success to other areas I,m sure soon will be.

Taxi drivers deserve all thats coming to them, and only the gracious ones will survive.

I needed to pick a nieghbours daugter up last week from Larnaca she was arriving from Australia, they were unable to pick her up themselves as her Mother is very ill, anyway I went along armed with a photo and a sign with her name on  As of course I had never met her, the obnoxious taxi driver who asked me what I was upto is no doubt still hanging from one of the flagpoles I left him on

She was,nt paying me I was doing a favour, what is wrong with them, if they are loosing their livelihoods they need to look in the mirror for the culprits. And yes taxi drivers the world over are exactly the same.

Except the one in Grenada he took us around the island for $10 each and gave us a very informed view of its history then took us to his own house for a drink after, can you imagine that happening here or in London

It is time that the Paphos Taxi Mafia is brought under control.
They are nothing but high way robbers , even I a G/C was charged cy £25.00 a few years before the Euro intro, from Paphos airport to town centre . I refused to pay and he reduced to £20.00 moaning at the same time that I was unappreciative of the ..service, Daylight robbers , avoid them at all costs .

Even for £20 you might as well hire a car for the day!
