Public told to snoop on lightbulb law breakers

Postby cyprusgrump » Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:51 am

The Daily Telegraph wrote:The public have been asked to 'snoop' on shopkeepers who continue to sell traditional light bulbs banned by Europe.

From September 1, it will be illegal to import conventional pearl or frosted bulbs of any shape or wattage. Traditional incandescent bulbs of 100 watts will also be banned under European law aimed at reducing energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions.

They will be replaced by energy saving lights, which usually use flourescent tubes, but it is thought some consumers will still prefer their 'traditional' bulbs, particularly for reading lamps.

I haven't bought conventional old style bulbs for the last four or five years so it won't be a worry for me.

Now they have designed the new energy saving bulbs so that they are smaller I can use them where ever I want.

They are though a little more difficult to clean due to the Cyprus dust but
only slightly so.

Thanks for the info.

I'll suggest that and if you see no further posts from me, you'll know that 'er inside has managed to exercise her authority.

Just be careful if you break them - here is the advice from DEFRA.

That is why you should use the new generation of LED bulbs! Solid state, so no problems when they stop working after 20 years.
