I know scores of software companies. Why don't you use the Cyprus yellow pages or a business index, or do you expect us to do the searching for you?

You really are a ray of sunshine, aren't you?

I have a relative just like that :) He knows everything but tells me nothing... I hate the guy. :) It's to do with jealousy and not wanting the progression of others.

1. What’s a “good” software company? It’s anyone’s guess!

2. There are many different TYPES of software companies. ie: Point of Sale, Internet related, multimedia/animation, Database related, Low level hardware control, etc. He doesn’t specify!

3. Location? He doesn’t specify!

Those who want to be helped should start by helping themselves with a CLEAR and INFORMATIVE request/post because nobody can be bothered extracting all that info from you in drips and drabs! If you don’t care why should I?

Sotos wrote:The guy asked for recommendations and he expected some company names! You tell him that there are lots of such good companies but give him no names. Then you give him the yellow pages as if every company listed in the yellow pages is a good company  If you do know good companies and you don't list them then it seems you are not so sure about your own skills and you are afraid the competition? ;)

Re Sodoff, I have worked in software here for many, many years, but as GR comments further down the thread, the bloke doesn't say where he wants to work, or what he knows!!!

If he is just coming back to Cyprus after studying IT, he is one of many and will have to take his chances with whatever he finds advertised. If he has twenty years experience in the US of IT project management (yia paradigma), then he is looking at a different set of companies and making a direct approach to them.

Happy?

Ok, some people are so willing (?!?) to help here, let me give you more information. I have Master's in Computer Science from a US university. I have 5 years of software development/research experience in 3 well known US/international tech companies. My experience has recently been Java/J2EE and rich internet application development but I have experience in C/C++ along with usual DB stuff. I'm more of a server-side developer but I'm willing to work on the client-side/UI as well.

In terms of a good company, I mean a company that is international, known to pay well and treat its employers well. Locationwise, I prefer Nicosia but open to other towns as well.

So, Get Real and CBBB, let's see how helpful you'll be now.

Ignore Pekan, who I assume is a nut.

You should send your CV to IBM, NCR, Net-U and Logicom. They are all based in Nicosia.

You could also try TSYS Cardtech, but they used to be a bunch of what Pekan said!

Nothing like a good bit of provocation is there?

That's one decent reply, let's see if the other one is.

You have to wonder why these guys are so unpleasant and nasty when you first asked the question.

Because he gave insufficient detail, which I think someone pointed out. That fact alone would have put me off employing him!

You would have got a better response by requesting the info politely rather than insulting and attempting to demean. He wasn't asking you for employment but for some information which you are qualified to give.

Your latest response shows what a wonderful employer you must be. I guess "Beatings will stop when morale improves" must head up your policies.
