The issue that has captured my interest mostly in this case has little to do with either the guilt or innocence of Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi although I do believe him to be innocent and hope that his ailment is as concocted as the rest of the sorry episode appears to be (IMHO).
It is the 'Legal' (whether it be Scottish or English) position which determines that, subject to the withdrawal of the prisoner's pending appeal (at his own request) AND the granting of such request, no public enquiry will now be possible fact that interests me, since it really means that 'The Truth' will never be known.
Since ALL of those (may we refer to them as 'Dignitaries'?) who were privy to the intended action of the prisoner prior to the hearing are well aware of legal process, since they likewise would be aware of the ramifications of the granting of the said request, is it not reasonable to suppose that the whole scenario was a complete 'Set Piece' from the outset ?.
The mere fact that there is now so much controversy among the aforementioned 'Dignitaries' regarding the suggestion that Oil, Gas and Mineral deals could be a sinister connection to the outcome of the trial, SHOULD present us all with a clue to what is really taking (or has taken) place.
Political figures holding their hands up in horror at the mere suggestion of such a 'Possibility', SHOULD be further evidence of such a 'Probability' (judging by what usually transpires when 'chicanery' is suspected) but is far too often disregarded once a few more 'Smokescreens' have been put in place.
Final result, those families/relatives and associates of the deceased who have suffered, receive the condolences of the said 'Dignitaries' (together with a few quid to shut them up) whilst those who have endured no pain or loss are free to negotiate their multi billion pound Oil, Gas and Mineral deals.
A great game to be in I reckon, certainly beats relying on the pensions most people come to rely on in their advancing years.
