Turkish colonal prepared TCs for invasion in 1973

That's right, one year before the coup, LOL....

Turks have changed the 1974 tale so many times that it is hard to remember the original fable. Inspired coup, nah, more like pre-planned. To the batmobile Robin! :

Allegations by a Turkish retired colonel who participated in the preparations for the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and in the invasion itself

Turkish Cypriot daily Gunes newspaper (20.08.09) reports that retired colonel Saldiray Hakguder, who has actively participated in the preparations for the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus and in the invasion itself, has alleged that the Turks have not killed any prisoner during the invasion. He claimed: “During the operation we have not killed any prisoner. We gave our own food and clothes to 197 Greek Cypriot citizens that we had gathered in a school. The Greeks have committed the real crime.”

Mr Hakguder said he came to Cyprus secretly in September 1973 in order to organize some preparations and added that he was preparing the Turkish Cypriots for the invasion for a period of ten months. He argued, inter alia, the following: “During the operation, I defended together with 800 soldiers six villages where the most intensive clashes were taking place. During our duty, I did not kill any Greek Cypriot who was captured. We shared our food and clothes with 197 Greek Cypriots whom I gathered in a primary school in Afania village for their own safety. We handed over all of them with their identity cards to the United Nations. The Greeks were those who committed the real crime. Around eight thousand Turkish Cypriots were murdered during the war. Tens of our captured soldiers were tortured and murdered. The Turkish prisoners were murdered without the UN to notice this. I am a living witness of these.”

The TCs were preparing to let the Turks in since at least 1963. This old fool was probably just serving one of the last stints.

As for GCs killing captured Turks, seems he saw a lot which the UN did not! Turkish lies come to mind ....

What's wrong with it? While Sampson back by Greek Junta was preparing for the coup; TMT back by Turkish army prepareing for intervention. Or u think no preparations made by Grivas and Sampson... So why did they divide GreekNG? There always has been A Plans and B plans... Nothing to be surprised.

The whole story and what you believe is farcical. How can one tell what part of this ex-soldiers story is true.

Contingency plans were made, why are you all surprised? Turkey had been threatening since 1963, but the leaders had never learnt.

The Turks would’ve invaded as early as 1967 if it weren’t for the fact that they had no personnel landing craft until, I think in 1973.

Thats right. I remember they collected gold ornaments as donations for the naval craft. Turkeys coffers were empty at the time. Mind you it never occured to me that they would be used against Cyprus. :? I dont think it would have made any difference though. I am not very sure about the dates of these collections though.

At the time I was young. I thought of the Greek islands if need be. Never Cyprus. Peraps I was too naive.

Sevgul Uludag has documented precisely the execution in AFANIA of Greek Cypriot captives.

AFANIA village, the very place this asshole says he was in charge.
