sat dish ..do they work?

Postby Its Me » Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:50 pm

hi
i am looking for honest replies. i have a 2.8 mtr sat dish, every night around about 8.00pm its starts to break up and i lose the pictures altogether { mainly bbc itv channel four} untill it comes back on again at around midnight.
the guys at the sat shop say if a upgrade to a 3.2 mtr or the 4 mtr dish this will cure the problem.
has anyone out there got a 4 mtr dish, who can confirm that the sat link does not break up and you do not lose your main uk channels?
i dont want to spend money on an upgrade for the very same thing to happen.

thanks guys. and galls.

Where are you?

The further East you go the bigger the dish you need to get BBC, etc.

I'm surprised you can't get a 2.8 to work then if it is properly aligned...

A 3.2 would certainly resolve your issues tho.

i have had it aligned about 4 times in 2 years, i have been told as the satelite moves around the earth that at certain times of the day. month year it is difficult to pick up the footprint of the sat.
do you have a large dish, and do you ever lose reception?
where are you?

I was told 3.2 was the minimum size here in Cyprus for a reliable signal.

I have a 2.7 here in Pissouri... it is fine about 80% of the time on BBC stuff that I want to watch (not much).

I have a Sky+ box so I mostly 'time shift' and watch things that are on late at night (or past my bedtime anyway)...

You should not have any problem with 4+meter dish 24/7 any time of the year....But it must be installed by an expert.
Paphos has the strongest signal for Astra 2D which carries the channels giving you problem..
Signal level from Astra 2D suffers all around the island in summer months and even in paphos 2.8m or 3.2m will give you problems.
If you dont want any headache go with a 4.2m Jonsa dish but make sure someone qualified installs it..

thanks for all the replies, but i still havent had a reply from someone with a 4.2meter dish who is saying that they do not get problems,
it seams its all "it should be okay", "you shouldnt have problems" answers.
come on guys/gals sing along ."have you got or have aint aint got access? { sky 4.2 dish}
