Its Me wrote:thanks for all the replies, but i still havent had a reply from someone with a 4.2meter dish who is saying that they do not get problems,
it seams its all "it should be okay", "you shouldnt have problems" answers.
come on guys/gals sing along ."have you got or have aint aint got access? { sky 4.2 dish}

I am the guy who first imported these 4.2m dishes to Cyprus back in 2002...(I still import them to the north)
I have helped the manufacturers develop this dish to what it is today by eliminating the faults they had built into this dish..
I have installed hundreds of them in the last 7 years...

Do you still need an answer from someone who has one of these dishes?
(by the way,my business is in the north so i am not trying to sell you anything now...just giving you the advice you asked)

I have a 4.2 m dish on my land but at the moment its breaks up on bbc 1& 2 itv channel 4 and 5. But I live in the East further from the footprint than you, still I,m fed up with having it re-aligned all the time and if there was anything else to watch I would gladly light a fire under it     Its with a Skybox and free to air card. This time of year we watch very little anyway.

We have Showtime with the one off pay card, and Cytavision thru the phone, that too is going back.

Sky is fine in the day BUT we never watch in the day  For obvious reasons we now don,t watch much at night either  It was better in the Winter after yet another re-alignment but it still had a period at night that it broke up. The base IS solid very thick and reinforced the dish was put in by an 'expert' it has been looked at by two more 'experts' since. We have decided to grow a grape vine on it  Much better use of it I think.

Has anyone yet tried the new Freesat box that you don,t need a card for in the UK, will it work here once loaded in the UK? Will it be any better?

thank you milo
you have given me your thoughts that i feel are the honest ones i was looking for. for that i thank you.

iceman,
again thank you for your input, and your last post has given me information on what you do for a living and that you take pride in developing the dish to what it is today. but for all your info it was the info from milo that i was looking for.
i have been advised about a newish product that is apparently sweeping the uk at the moment, its called slingbox and slingcatcher, and together they can be set up in the uk through your internet, and it allows you to access it through your internet here, and remotely use your sky satelite, freeview, dvd player. you can hook up to 4 different devices and view them in cyprus, through your tv with a remote control, just like having sky multiroom at home.
just google slingbox and see for yourself.
the uk slingbox comes with all the uk freeview channels already installed.

I have 4.2m installations in Famagusta and even one up towards Karpas...I don't usually work in that area but i did some installations just to test the signal...( i have also "fixed" some 4.2's in Paralimni/Napa area  ) Loads of experts down there Image

The Freesat box (Humax Foxsat) has an excellent tuner...much better than the best skybox tuner i have come across...
If you only watch FTA terrestrial channels, it is the best box to have in Cyprus..

If I get a Freesat tuner on my next visit to UK does that also mean I would need re-aligning? As I may get one as we only want FTA. IS it possible to load this tuner from Cyprus using a UK postcode?

I need to make me mind up the vines are growing

Its me, the Slingbox is used by quite a few here that I know off and it works but the picture quality not so good, mind you I need talk, although when the picture is not pixillating :eyecrazy: then the quality of picture is very very good.I need the satellite to sit above me and stop still or do I mean the earth to stay still??

No need for a postcode to tune the box...Postcode option is usefull if you live in UK to list regional channels on your EPG..
Out here in Cyprus, use Manual Tune insted of Freesat Tune.

Yes we had that too   Now back to square one :(

We are looking for the tuner device thingy ourselves, seen as we pay out ALL the time for re-aligning we might as well.

Thanks iceman I will get the Freesat Humax then, I might as well throw more money at it
