Dear all,
I recently was pondering over occupations and I came to a shocking conclusion, one which I wanted to share with the forum.
Try answering the following questions:
1. What is your dream job?
2. What are you good at?
3. What will you likely become successful in?
These are the normal questions we are all asked when deciding what to do and everybody seems to plan their future around these questions.
We can all be good at our jobs if we try enough, and therefore in theory, since we are good at what we do, we should in turn like it, sometimes this also works the other way around. I wish it was so simple. The trouble is, a dream job has nothing to do with what we are good at or what we like doing.
Wait! If you like doing something really really much, then it's ideal! Wrong. For instance somebody has a passion for food, he loves to cook it, would this constitute an ideal job? Hardly.
We need to start seeing things from another angle in order to understand how we should plan our future. Answer the following types of questions:
1. What types of people do you like to deal with?
2. How often will you meet these types of people in your job?
3. Which types of people do you want to avoid?
4. How likely is it that you will encounter these types of people?
You might think "hold on, isn't everybody the same?", in truth the general population is the same (from a general observation), but everybody is different depending on their environment, and some people stick to certain environments which kind of forms who they are as a person.
If your working in a pub, then the chances are you will be dealing with drunks, and the best you can hope for a non-drunk person who will speak very little, as he will be out voiced by the voice of the drunkards.
If you are working as an accountant, then you will probably be dealing with business minded people, or people who want to play the laws to their advantage. The only trouble is when the going gets touch you are likely to face enormous stress as it normally involves a large sum of money.
Take a nurse who is working in a hospital, she will be probably dealing with people who need her help and are in another state of mind to what you would normally find them.
Lets go back to the ideal chef, who loves to cook, do you think his job only involves cooking?
Every job has pressures, but what are a tolerance levels. I like dealing with sophisticated people, well mannered individuals.
It's not necessarily what we like, but who we want to mix with, in the environments we want to meet them in. I am blessed in the fact that I can choose the people I work with, but likely for me I either deal with business minded people, or wanna-be business men (which in most cases I avoid).
So it's not what we want to do, but what types of people do we want to associate ourselves with, and what are the chances of finding those people in our working environment.
I hope this has given another perspective.
