Isik Kitabevi suffers arson attack

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

In the last few days we have witnessed the following:

1- A sculpture donated in the name of peace by a GC artist to the TC community is defaced with obscenities.
2- One of Yeni Düzen newspaper's leading columnists receives a threatening letter.
3- A left-wing bookshop is burned down.

Do you not spot a new trend?

Joking apart, the TRNC so-called police headquarters are right next door to the place where this attack happened.

Soon it will be a crime to openly call your self a Turkish Cypriot .
As far as Turkey is concerned there only Turks not Cypriot Turks .

They have an evening arranged, and the readers are suggesting buying the burnt books to help the shop get back on its feet again.
The question is how much support do the attackers have from Turkey? It will be obvious quite soon.

Fred, if you have any concrete information about this - e.g. where to send the money, please pass on the information. I was a regular customer of this shop and was very fond of the people there. They were prepared to sell certain books by people like Ahmet An and Neşe Yaşın that were too hot for anybody else to handle. They were true democrats, though. You could also find books by Denktash and right wingers there, and Yeni Volkan was always on the newspaper rack at the front.

Thanks. I have just read the above story, which carries the headline 'Talat has lit the fuse'. According to these people Talat should shut up rather than condemn this attack!

It is a well known fact the the mainland Turks do not like T/Cs and visa verse..
The T/Cs are an integral part of this island where the mainland Turks are not.

The TRNC police has been continuing to investigate the issue by taking into consideration 3 different probabilities behind this incident.... Let me add one more...

Miltiadis and his team did it to create chaos and hate between TCs and Turkey...

U old chap, still u have the same dream ehh? Hehehe, hate kills...

One more overestimation of G/cs capabilities!!!!

You can appreciate the mental capacity of those who burnt the shop. At a time when you can read An's writings with the click of a computer mouse, these neanderthals go and burn a bookshop.

The conclusion is that it is done by people who are not in tune with the times. But the symbolic effect of the act is powerful nevertheless.

What is worrying is the growing divergence of the two communities in terms of tolerance. The south is becoming increasingly open and tolerant, the north increasingly conservative and inward looking. It is arguable that the north is even more conservative than Turkey itself.

Is history repeating itself in the Turk Reich?

Of course vp would rather have a thousand times worse than be a minority among other free Cypriots.

GCs are increasingly open and tolerant. Now that is funny!
