So did I. Well, I guess it will take me no time at all to get used to the local ways once again, and ignore general rudeness. That is NOT to say that everyone in Cyprus is rude, but to be honest, I am sorry to see how my countrymen in customer service jobs interact with their customers.

no it isnt :?

Yup actually today I agree with you.. it isn't. Went to a popular restaurant today. Ordered a salad (which is supposed to come with pine nuts, as per the menu). Received the salad - sans nuts! Called the waiter, who tried to convince me this particular salad comes without pine nuts. 15 minutes and numerous requests to consult the menu later, the waiter accepts there should have been pine nuts in my plate of salad. The result? Waiter says "I dunno, "she" (WHO?) usually puts them in, I'll get you some EXTRA ones". Runs off, comes back and slams the tiny plate with 10 pine nuts (not toasted) on the table, runs off with not as much as "sorry".

Yeah, Cyprus is definitely not the same as 15 years ago.

Nuts in a salad is so wrong.

I never send anything back in a restaurant, you don't know what the next dish will contain!

The waiter was Cypriot, and the restaurant is quite nice and extremely popular actually. Pity that the experience was ruined.

Over the years visiting Cyprus on at least 6 times a year for short stays I have always managed to set my self as a Cypriot from the moment I step off the plane.
Firstly I fully realize where Iam , Cyprus not the UK , secondly I do not for one moment expect Cyprus to be the UK.
I do not use thank you please or sorry in the fashion that a London bus conductor , when some were around , would use ie any more fares please , thank you fares please thank you ....
and neither to I expect either a please or a thank you from a shop assistant bank employee etc.

My older brother on the contrary constantly uses the 3 words that helped England conquer the world, he says , Please , thank you , sorry.

When in Cyprus do what the Cypriots do , I never have a problem and no one ever called me a ...Charlie
