Talat wants everything in exchange for nothing.
...typical turkish policy.

Brother
With the greatest of respect might I say I agree with your summary based on what you quoted BUT these are words from a politician with an agenda probably designed to assist & ease the path of mainland Turkey into the EU. Like a vast majority of politicians one can be assured of a tirade of terminological inexactitudes because one can see the lips move. It is worth remembering that a consummate politician doesn't lie but neither do they tell the truth. Is it any wonder the people begin to wonder who to believe. If as much effort was put into finding an equitable solution as is put into trying to have one over the other side we will all be living happy ever after now.

all both sides have done in 30 years is talk and in most cases they have not even done that well. actions speak louder than words. maybe both sides set a precedent by giving a few people from each side their land back.a good will gesture. maybe not something this extreme but some actions are definately needed

Brother, do you really think that Talat would agree to meet on the terms that his position is under Turkish Cypriot leader...and not president of 'TRNC'? I doubt it.

and again, what good will concessions had Talat made to GC? He refuses to even stop foreign developments on GC land. He is all mouth.

He makes demands as if he envisiges separation.

Look at the last round of talks in Brussels...he refused every offer made unless 'TRNC' got complete foreign trade. RoC even offered him a limited trade which he stupidly turned down/ Dont tell me his actions are for reunification.

the turks know that the greeks have sentimental gain by reunification and to them the financial loss of being a seperate country must be worth it. turkey wont join the EU for a good decade. nobody will accept a burden that big. the country will require so much funding the EU would collapse. not to mention their disgraceful human rights record.

Nice to know that you think someone popularly elected by 55% of the TRNC population (with an even greater % of 'fully-fledged' TCs voting for him) doesn't matter. Essentially you're saying that the views of the people he represents similarly don't matter.

Yes, Ankara may be the key player, but remember the days when great powers talked over the heads of Cypriots? Hey, why not let's just take Cypriots out of the argument entirely... why don't we have a bilateral meeting between Erdoğan and Karamanlis to decide Cyprus' future... just like the old days... oh, and while they're at it, let's bring Phoney Tony from the UK into the mix... would that make you happy :?:

The main problem is that while we all sit and debate in this forum on matters that are important and try to be fair, humane etc. we have the senior politicians on both sides filling our ears with what we want to hear, irrelivant of that facts that they are probably half truths.

You see too many people on both sides are benefitting from this stalemate or velvet partition as it is now, and until that benefit is stopped there will be very little reason for them to want to truely solve this issue.

Sorry my cypriot brothers but the biggest joke is on us the cypriot people and the biggest crimanals are our politicians, may they burn in hell for extending our pain and misery and not bringing us our united cyprus
