TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the Greek Cypriot Administration perceives Turkish origin TRNC citizens as “Robocops” which could pose a security threat in the event of a future settlement.

The President also said that he felt ‘undermined and frustrated’ at the negotiations table following the recent judgments on the Orams Case as well as the ban on UK direct flights.

Evaluating the first round of the full-fledged talks on the Turkish State Television-TRT 1, the President said that he was more optimistic about the process than he was a year ago because the talks hadn’t broken off despite the many crises experienced.

Talat also said that he was most relieved by Turkey’s open and unconditional support.

“What eases us the most is Ankara’s clear support. Turkey is the only country which supports us and when it does, it does it by respecting the political will of the Turks of Cyprus. This of course disproves the Greek Cypriot Side’s argument that we are Ankara’s puppet” he added.

Pointing out that the property issue could create a major stumbling block in the negotiations; the President complained that the Greek Cypriot Side was not accepting the principle of bi-zonality, one of the two main parameters set by the UN for a settlement.

Talat also said that the Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias had rejected an offer from the UN Secretary General to hold a trio-meeting in New York so as to prevent the UN from taking on a more active role in the ongoing process.

Responding to a question as to why the Greek Cypriot Administration feared Turkish origin TRNC citizens so much, Talat said “All these people are our equal citizens. Why do they fear them so much? Their argument is really absurd. They perceive these people as well trained “Robocops” by the Turkish Armed Forces” who could pose a security threat in the event of a settlement” he added.

Read between the lines of the statement and you have a pretty clear picture of the post settlement situation-

Turkish settlers accepted as citizens of the "new" state, the Turkish army permanently stationed there, the principle of bizonality interpreted as to mean no GCs are allowed possession of property in the north.

But, property ownership will be allowed to other EU citizens as well as to the imported settlers.

Faced with this vision do you doubt that partition is preferable?

The process of annexation has begun in earnest signalling also the end of the Turkish Cypriot .
Turkey still believes that the world and particularly the EU will accept such an act.
The T/Cs have lost I'm afraid , they are but a mere minority in their own country .The mainland settlers have taken over it is with them that the RoC HAS TO NEGOTIATE ie Turkey.
