They've got one of the highest if not the highest, GDP p/capita rate in Europe so why would they want to have France, Germany, and the UK, telling them what to do with their money?

That is utter rubbish dear Oracle, the Generals are there to protect certain interests that make the foundations of the country and the idea it is built on.

Every country works that way, they just happen to have more people against certain aspects of its constitution than any other country.

"Every country works that way" Cynicism again at its turkish best. No, not everyone does it that way, in democracies the leadership of the armed forces is appointed and FIRED by civilians. Check up on it and see how it is done.
