Washing Machine probs

Postby eleni » Mon Aug 03, 2009 12:43 pm

I have a "Super General washing machine" on Saturday the blasted catch on the door broke  I took the door off to get to it, and phoned the shop I bought it from, they told me I would have to come in and order a new one! I asked how long it would take to get one and was told " if you come in and order one you can pick it up at the same time" OK panic over the parts dept will open Monday.

This morning I went to the parts dept with the broken catch in hand to be told "then nomiso ebarki" (What! the machine is 2 years old) the man went into the store room to look and a came back a little later "then ebarki" !!!hsit!!! what am I supposed to do now I asked is there anywhere else I might get one.. "then xero mboris na thokimassis (another shop).. in the car I went to this other shop.. no joy! but he did say the shop I bought the machine from should have it as they are the main stockist..

Home I came and phoned the head office, who said " the part probably doesn't come on its own" (but it does for other machines cos the guy gave me one to see if it fit) "you may need to buy a new door" What!
 ( for a 2 euro catch I may need a new door) I then said peri pessis ton kosmos yai ena catch na kreazo neo porta.. that's how it is he said... He then said he will phone the parts and find out and phone me back! if they don't have a door they will sell me a new washing machine 1/2 price.. this blasted catch is getting dearer by the minute...as if I would buy a new washing machine there... I bought all my kitchen things there 2 years ago and have a dishwasher that leaks underneath, a fridge freezer that no longer makes ice, an air-conditioning unit that doesn't blow cold & now the washing machine!!

You obviously went to the wrong shop in the first place and then bought all the cheap crap they had!

Go to the manufacturers website and find out the part number and then go back to the shop. I had a similar problem with one of the dials on my washing machine, but after checking what part number I needed it was sorted in 5 minutes at a cost of about €6. The machine was about 9 years old, but it was AEG.

Thanks for the reply CBBB, Some of us can't afford to go and buy the most expensive Crap but I thought 1,349cy£ was quite expensive for a fridge freezer for instance.. & actually the cost of the thing is not in question.

The washing machine wasn't the most expensive they had but I was told it was a reliable one... it's only the bloody catch that's broken..I would expect they would have spare parts for things they stock.. it's not a little corner shop.
The manufacturers website doesn't have that option but I'm giving this bloke a chance to call back and if he don't then I shall be on to his boss

Actually this thread has just reminded me of the time I went ti ikea with my friend in nicosia to buy a few things for the home.
spent most of the day trying to get help with ordering etc.
could i get anyone to help..no!! my blood pressure was starting to reach boiling point and after spending hours deciding what to get, i was starting to think it had all been a waste of time as no one would help me out.
went into the warehouse, a guy called nick was wondering around, i needed help with a twenty ton rug, and advise re delivery etc, a worker called nick, he didnt hear him, again he called nick, still he didnt hear him, so that was it i had to step in, feeling peed off and wanting ti faint in the heat and just get home, in complete frustration right accross the store i shouted at the top of my voice NICK, the store stoood still and nick very nice chap helped with everything, i had the job of picking my friend up from the floor as she was dying with embarasment and laughter, we still laugh about it today!!!

I have just got off the phone to "the head office" the guy was on the other phone he's yet to call me back... what seems so strange is all they want to do is give me the phone number of their repair man..(why! if the part I need don't exist) they will probably try glue and want to charge the earth... I can fix it myself..

and as for Super General... it's a good machine, works very well and still would if the door catch hadn't broke.

If I have to go down to the parts shop again, they will probably hear me from Limassol to Ikea

If this is a yankee “General Electric” then it’s not a bad brand WW.

Anyway, post the exact brand and model number of the WW here if you like and I’ll see if I can find that part for you from the Internet etc.

It's not GE, it's a knock off arab version.

Hi GR,

no I have since found out that their head office is in Dubai.

I have just had a call from their repair man, he wants to come and fix it... I asked him how if the spare parts don't have the part. he said he might be able to find it. (and charge me for something I can do myself)
