And these are things which are not my invention but have come from scientific research etc.
Most of the meat sold in the U.K. and other large consumer size countries is not only stored in refrigeration for weeks before it goes to suppliers but also often treated with chemicals to make it look more red and appealing etc.-any wonder why cancer and other such diseases are so common nowadays.Kosher regulations about diet and hygiene are very strict about what is fit for human consumption and such meat is produced in relatively small quantities compared to the mass-markets so this is why it is of better quality-if you have ever eaten a home-reared chicken and compared it with one from a battery farm, you will know what I mean!
The same goes for fruit and vegetables which you gather from a small holding and those you buy imported from supermarkets etc.
Coming on to less enjoyable subjects and I know a certain young lady who may be reading this posting is a sensitive soul, just like me and hates cruelty to animals, they do have sentience and although their level of intelligence differs from that of humans(but is not necessarily inferior!)it does not mean they should be ill-treated!Unlike pets, most farm animals are not used to being handled by humans and often become distressed and frightened if this occurs......this is why it is essential to stun them unconscious BEFORE they are killed and drained of blood in the way that meat production normally stipulates.Of course it is important that the person responsible for the process knows how to cary it out effectively and that the animal is unconscious before its throat is cut,but the heart still working to cause exanguination(sorry for the gory details!)There are various methods of stunning from low-frequency electricity which is applied either to the ears or the whole body, captive bolt pistols which are used on larger animals such as cattle and applied to their foreheads,as well as other methods such as co2 gassing for pigs which is used in Denmark and other countries.Intensive scientific investigations have been carried out in recent decades and all of them recommend that no animal should be slaughtered without previously having been effectively stunned as it is believed to cause uneccessary pain and distress! So just hanging or tying them up on hooks and cutting their throats while they are still conscious in a NO-NO!!'Not all Jews are Orthodox and will eat non-kosher food and some who are are vegetarians, largely because they do not approve of ritual slaughter, while even rabbinical authorities are beginning to come round to the idea of stunning animals, largely as a result of the outcry against their traditional methods by increasing numbers of people all over the world! If anyone still has any illusions that animals do not suffer when it is used, just go to youtube and watch some of the films on kosher slaughter, but be warned it is worse than a horror film and what you see is real!!There is one example from the U.S.A. which is particularly harrowing)
As a believer in the after- life, karma and such spiritual concepts, the act of killing attracts very low vibrations from a meta-physical aspect, even more so when suffering is involved and incurs karmic debts not only on the perpetrators but also those who condone it.Whether or not you accept this is a matter of choice but I think the moral implications of all I have just written in this posting are clear enough! If you want to eat meat,at least be sure it came from an animal which was humanely killed....
And I am not implying that all abbatoirs in larger countries necessarily pay enough attention to that aspect either. If you want to know more, read the British Farm animal welfare councils reports, which are available on-line.
