The whole "Animal Lover" thing is a hypocrisy. Some months ago I showed some video of how the chickens we eat every day are treated and executed. "Animal Lovers" my arse. Only a vegetarian can claim to be animal lover. What some people love are their pets and they love them for selfish reasons because they offer them fun and companionship, not because they are Animal Lovers. I think people shouldn't be allowed to have pets at all. Animals should live wild on their own and those animals that can live in cities next to people without creating big problems, like cats, should be let to live free and act naturally instead of cutting their balls off and locking them in apartments!

Has anyone here ever been to an abbatoir in Cyprus?

Postby cymart » Tue Aug 04, 2009 11:38 pm

Until they opened the Kophinou central one, most animals were killed without being stunned first, which was illegal then and is certainly nowadays!Fortunately we now only have about five abbatoirs in the south and all of them are modern and have to meet E.U. rules.
In the north I hate to even think what goes on-there was a video on youtube some time ago showing sheep being slaughtered somewhere in the north and it was horrible! They were just thrown on the floor and held down while their throats were slit over a drainage channel and left to writhe!I hope the new one in Dikomo has stunning equipment and that the people who use it have been properly trained!
Compassion and humanity costs nothing.....

A vegetarian displaces animal life from the ground used to grow his food. There are no innocents, all are guilty.

So if you want to be really kind to animals you must starve yourself.

Joking aside, abandoning a pet you had for years must be the high point of treason.

It's not about "the North" it is the Muslim and Jewish way, if they sell Kosher or Halal meat down South be sure that it happens there too as it does in many European countries.

I still think if you want to see REAL animal cruelty just go check out the places where they grow and slaughter chicken and pork in the UK, watch 1000s chicken live on top of each other pecking themselves to death IF their beaks have not been properly burned off while they were tiny chicks.

Now THAT is cruelty an unnatural, not nail guns, nature does not have nail guns.

So there is a huge contrast between actually loving animals while being able to eat them while respecting them, and not giving a toss about what goes on around the world regarding animal products while you are gulping down the next Big Mac.

Only an idiot would claim that you cannot eat animals if you are an "animal lover", you can be a conscious animal lover, eat meat, and still avoid the REAL sickness. Not naturally bred animals who are consumed in the way that follows the laws of nature.

Nature IS cruel and eating an animal is nothing but natural, however humans have managed to go way beyond that.

Also I read somewhere, did you know that the oldest human-cat relation ever known was discovered in Cyprus, in a 9500 year old grave of a person who was buried along with a 8 month old kitten?

Says a lot about how much we have learned regarding treating animals and pets in the past 10,000 years

We don't have kosher meat in the south..

and Halal meat is imported. There is constant opposition to religious slaughter in many countries and a number have banned it!Even Moslems in the U.K. now accept stunning in abbatoirs because it is not against anything in the Koran.
But I also agree about the cruelty of factory farming in many places and condemn it.However,I find slaughter without stunning equally unacceptable and always intervene to stop it whenever I come across such practices! It is cruel and unnecessary-stop it!!
