If Turkey is willing to stick it out for the last 50 years, much to your disappointment, I'm sure, they will stick it out for another 50 years, if need be, to become an EU member at some point in the future. What’s their alternative, the Middle East? For what.? What does the Middle East has to offer Turkey.? Where is the Middle East is going to be once the demand for their oil dries up from the west because of Green Technology becoming more in use that oil in the next 10-20 years. The prosperity of the Middle East’s oil days are numbered, and aside from producing dates, they have very little else to export, other than sand, perhaps. Turkey does not even have oil, therefore they can only look to the West as Atatürk saw the realities turn of the last century.

All Turkey needs to do, is keep on reforming as they have been doing already, but obviously not quite enough yet. All you NeoPartitionist who are holding onto GC properties are banking on Turkey to walk away from her EU dreams so that all you morally corrupted can finally think that you have got it made. Sorry to disappoint you, but Turkey will not give up on the EU, because Time Does Not Stand Still and one day France and Germany under different leadership and different circumstances will welcome Turkey into the club once Turkey becomes fully European with European values and the only obstacle left in their path will be the RoC. The road to Turkey’s journey to Brussels goes through downtown Nicosia. So, come December, watch them open their ports to the RoC and even privately recognise the RoC, because without such a move, the Turkish economy will take a downward spiral if the EU talks were to come to an end and Turkey cannot afford that.

If the last 50 years of Turkey’s attempts to become a EU member has not convinced you that Turkey will not walk away from the EU, then nothing will convince you, because you see everything from your own interest in what you can get away with, and not from Turkey's own interest. So what are the choices for Turkey, keep the remaining 70,000 TCs happy in the north or try to improve the lives of her 70,000,000 Turks in Turkey. You don't have enough zero's in the TCs numbers to really compete with the number of zero’s in the number of Turks in Turkey. I hope I did not ruin your weekend with a little bit of reality check for you to ponder over. If I did, then sorry.!

Take a guess as to which side of the scale below the TCs are and which side are the Turks when the time comes for Turkey to decide as to what's more important for her when it comes to her EU membership.?

In my estimations, the only hope Viewpoint can cling on to is not the rejection of Turkey by Europe but the rejection of reforms by the military. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see them going quietly and accepting the erosion of their power that a withdrawal from Cyprus will signify.

That's not how accession works... but have it your way. I'm not going to convince you the EU aren't demons.

In Turkey, but presumably not in the area of Cyprus controlled by Turkey?

What will the GCs do without this leverage, we all know it was the reason why you joined in the first place?

I can't conceive of free Cypriots not having the EU leverage.

Sounds like you are crying over spilt airanin, rather than realising the EU has been Cyprus's ticket to freedom - including one day, and that day seems now to be fast approaching, the occupied north.

What will happen to your ticket when Turkeys EU aspirations are thwarted?

What do you want to bet that Turkey will not open her ports without getting some sort of concessions out of the EU?

Cyprus's EU status is irreversible. What will happen to you, assuming Turkey's EU aspirations are not thwarted, do you think?

The concessions she will get is to keep the EU talks going to save her economy and what ever trinket concessions the RoC will allow the EU to give to the north just so that Turkey can save some face, but who cares, as long as Turkey is moving in the right direction in helping herself to become an EU member in due course. Turkey will gain, the RoC will gain, and you, what will you gain other than some trinkets..??

Thats our concern not yours, we are willing to go down that path because the alternative is unthinkable when will you realize this.

Turkey will open her ports only when she is ready and given what she demands not just mere trinkets, but exactly what the EU promised TCs, what will it take for you to lick off the ground what you spat out...I bet you the deal will be Turkish ports for a realxation of isolation on the TRNC or an extension for another year. If what I say happens will you apologise for talking such crap? but we all know this is not your nature as you are the type of person that if someone spat in your face you would say it was raining.

The Doom & Gloom will follow if Turkey does not act to open her ports to the RoC. It looks like she will come December, which will allow her to continue with her EU talks, hence saving her economy from going under.

Viewpoint wrote:Turkey will open her ports only when she is ready and given what she demands not just mere trinkets, but exactly what the EU promised TCs, what will it take for you to lick off the ground what you spat out...

Take a breath and not so fast. So you think Turkey will only open her ports if the EU allows everything they promised the "trnc" in 2004 (what were they, by the way), when the EU has already told Turkey that those are two different matters al together and are unrelated, and they are. But in order for Turkey to save some face, I think the RoC will allow some limited concessions in order to get the ball rolling, but it will not be the EU who would allow this, but the RoC. Perhaps open the Famagusta port under a joint operation with the EU for Verosa, which you have said no once before. Anything else major, not likely. So what will you do when Turkey recognises the RoC which will in essence would mean unrecognising the "trnc". ??

Viewpoint wrote:I bet you the deal will be Turkish ports for a realxation of isolation on the TRNC or an extension for another year. If what I say happens will you apologise for talking such crap?

Apologise for what. So far you have made a 180° turn by telling us that Turkey will open her ports when for the longest time you claimed this would not happen. First you said that the EU will have to keep all it's "promises" it made in 2004, when in fact the EU body did not do such thing, to now only asking for “relaxation of isolation”. This can mean anything, and as I said, the RoC may allow some limited concession that will involve the joint operation with the EU, such as the Famagusta port. How would extending the EU talks to Turkey make any difference, other than delaying the inevitable when ever it happens. According to the EU, it is all happening (or not) this December. If the EU wants to extend, so be it, it does not change the long term obligations for Turkey to meet..

Viewpoint wrote:but we all know this is not your nature as you are the type of person that if someone spat in your face you would say it was raining.

I have no problem apologising to anything if warranted, but if someone were to spit in my face as you said you intend on doing upon ever meeting me, then they will get the same treatment as I promised you, which is that they will be drinking their food through a straw for a very long time.!

CYPRIOT CHAMPION - JUNIOR SURFING CHAMPIONSHIP - GOLD MEDAL
Cypriot champion Michalis Malekkides won the gold medal in the World Junior Surfing Championship, which was organised in Turkey.
Malekkides was second until the 12th race and on Saturday managed to win the 13th race, moving into first position in the general classification.

Here is another example of how Turkey recognises Cyprus. It is farcical really that Turkey refuses overflights in their airspace of Cypriot planes or the docking of ships in their ports, yet they have no problem in recognising Cypriots sportsmen and women!
