Not an ideal society....

The Cypriots have sold everything to worship their God,which today is money, money and more money and of course they are trying in vain to find happiness! But when their political, religious and social elite are mostly a bunch of crooks who wheel and deal and lie through their teeth, what do you expect from the rest of the people? They are always moaning about the Turkish Occupation, the refugees etc etc yet the place is over-run with consumer goods, luxury cars, gambling joints and brothels posing as 'night-clubs' which have earned the country a bad reputation internationally! When they find problems they try to blame anyone but themselves.....
If you can find any articles in English by the well-known psychiatrist Yiangos Mikkelides he writes an excellent analysis of Cypriot society behind the facade and for the bitter truth about recent history see Makarios Droushiotis books and films...
But I write this with great sadness, not relish... since 1955 the Cypriots took a wrong turn and have been on a downward slope ever since.
This could have been the Switzerland of the Mediterranean, but instead,as the Greek politican Mitsotakis-or was it Karamanlis once said,it has become the whore instead!
People who are insecure and have the superior/inferior complex that many Cypriots do can do terrrible things out of fear,as history has so often shown.

And the same thing happened in the UK when Margaret Thatcher gave people access to limitless loans. We now have the biggest CRASH ever!

BOF wrote:As for the behaviour of certain Cypriot women in and out of the car - sorry oracle your mistaken, unless your referring to the female lawyer who was caught speeding/ driving while banned and got a presidential pardon (that went down well)
Have to agree with the original post - some of these women are so far up themselves they are on oxygen....
When i see one of these types trying to join the mainstream of traffic i wont let them out - nothing to do with Ego, simply the fact that if you do motion them to pull out in front of you they then ignore your gesture.
In the civilised world this is considered the height of ignorance - not girl power or "my car cost more than yours" attitude....

Well, if they start spending their weekends downing as much alcohol as their stomachs will hold, evacuating the contents, then starting all over again; or reproducing from the age of 12 years just so that they can have babies of every fashionable colour to help them spend their welfare benefits .... then perhaps there may be some case for extreme concern.

But when women are simply doing what men have been getting away with ... and getting criticized just for being women and doing that; well that's just sexist! It's the general attitudes which have to be criticised and I don't think they are any worse in Cyprus than anywhere else, amongst young people.

Wow! I did not realise Cypriot women were the objects of so much envy!

Somewhere in this forum I read similar stuff for TC women. Seems the trend transcends the green line.

I am a Cypriot, and none of the above applies for me! Therefore do not generalise!

Emma it's great you can enjoy your lifestyle and you seem to have a good perspective.

However having and enjoying the lifestyle is not the point here, it is the attitude that often seems to come with it. The arrogance and rudeness that having money creates. I have seen and met women from all over the world and the Cypriot women have the worst attitude, they seem to think they are a higher life form and therefore expect the world to defer to them.

Of course it's not true of all Cypriot women (just as the drinking stupid amounts of alcohol and having babies to get more benefit refers to a small percentage of Brits) but there is a high proportion. Oracle seems to be in denial - but hang on isn't she a Cypriot woman?

Come on Cypriot girls, show a little humility, thank people when they let you out of side roads, be nicer to people generally.

I am far from jealous. I pity most of these woman that really have not idea what life is actually about. They are living dysfunctioanl lives. They should get dumped in Africa and see how most of the world lives.

Big shots are little shots that just keep shooting!!!!

Hi Emma. I am female and Cypriot FYI. I am not angry. Just saying it as it is. Some people are just too blind to see....
