Thank you for your comments.
It is pleasing that your have suffered no real significant damage as a result of Cypriot troubles. You are fully aware,I am sure, that many Cypriots have and a state of frustrated peace prevails. Some continue with their lives with positive goals and aspirations to better themselves. Others however chose to live with strife unhappiness and hatred. These poeple are in a diminishing minority and will diminish with time.
I am British. I find it disturbing that you hold such xenophopic views againt the British. Yes the British government have magde some grave errors of judgment and decision in the past 50 years.
You are correct that the TRNC has a significant Turkish population and an increasing Turkish presence generally.
Given the very limited resources and fredoms awarded to your neighbours including TCs the path can be argued as justifiable.
The ROC too has seen influx of foreigners. Europeans are free to work, live, and invest in the ROC.
The TRNC is significantly disadvantaged compared to the ROC. The ROC continue to work to continue with the state of seige. This is wrong in my view and I am pleased to see that the TRNC is able to overcome these events. Yes it is with Turkish aid. I am afraid that the TRNC has had little alternative. It is very sad that many ROC citizens complain about human rights whilst many of the same people are guilty of keeping their neighbours and fellow citizens isollated from the same rights.
There has been significant influx of foreign investment into the TRNC since particularly 2004. It is certainly the case that many people, mainly GC were displaced. Land and property issues are and continue to be very difficult to resolve. The Orams case which is a civil litigation case will not be the solution. I think it very unlikely that there will be any mass movment of Cypriot populus like we saw in 1974. It is just too far down the line to go back.
The European stance of the ROC will have little real effect on the TRNC because it is Turkey that have the command over the North and Turkey is not in the Union. Turkey may turn their back on Europe and USA. It comes down to who needs who the most. The tide on this one is turning. Europe needs Turkey as a military ally.
Europe most recently needs Russian gas piped via Turkey. The USA neds its Turkish military bases and take off points.
Turkey needs European trade...well it has that, particularly under treaty with the British. Turkey has increasing links with all the BRIC economies. Braszil, Russia, India and China.
Many Cypriots have been disadvantaged, deprived and molested in the 50,s 60,s and 70,s. TC and GC and indee some Brits (Eoka campaigns). How can all move on?
My experiance of the TRNC is a vibrant, young and patriotic country that is desperate to participate on the world stage, to have freedom and human rights like any other country. Without Turkish support the region would die.
Without Turkey many would say that the TC would be extinct. The choices have been stark for the TRNC. The path is tough. A lot tougher than the ROC path. However the desire and commitment is omnipresent and unshakable. I think the aspiration is just and I support it. I support the ROC in its desire to be part of Europe.
I do not support anyone who denies any person the very basic human right for freedom, expression and liberty.
