Wireless Router....again.

Postby kafenes » Wed Jul 29, 2009 5:14 pm

I know this topic has been discussed many times before but am still not sure what to do. I intend to purchase a Belkin N1 as per link. Will it be as easy as disconnecting the Cyta unit and plugging this unit in? Please help.

You should NOT disconnecting the Cyta unit. There will be 5 Ethernet ports behind the router. One of them will be separate from the other 4. You should connect the Cyta modem with the router using this port. Then you should connect your computer from one of the other 4 ports behind the router. And why you choose this router? It has a lot of negative reviews http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F5D8231-4- ... B000FPIVLU By the way, if you don't know what you are doing then better to get somebody to set it up for you. Otherwise even if you manage to get it working you might not set up the wireless security ok and others might be able to steal bandwidth from you and browse your local network!

Thanks Sotos. What do you recommend as the easiest and best way to go wifi?

Kafene, why do you need this wifi router given that the SpeedTouch already offers wifi + 4 wired connections?

If the problem is one of range then what you need is a repeater not a router.

OK, here's the story. When Cyta supplied the modem a few years ago, even though it has an aerial on the unit, it just doesn't work wireless. When I asked them to replace it, they said they couldn't don that unless this modem breaks down. So in a manner, the Cyta employee suggested I drop the unit and break it for them to supply a proper wireless unit. I don't want to break anything, so, I want to buy my own router and I want a good one.
