When the UK annexed Cyprus, a consul was sent here from Turkey. This was because at that time there was no such thing as a Cyprus problem in Turkey. The Turks on the island were supposed to return to Turkey. Thus a consul was sent to simplify these procedures. It shows how different the vision was in those days.

If the Turks on our island returned to Turkey there wouldn't be any Cyprus Problem anymore. At that time the Turks decided that they could not rule Cyprus anymore and it seems that they were about to take back their settlers and stop creating problems to our island. But it seems later they changed their mind and they decided not only to leave those Settlers but to invade again and bring even more settlers and create even more problems to Cyprus. Turkish Expansionism is the problem of Cyprus. The Turkish Settlers (new and old) is the way Turkey is trying to expand against us and take our lands. If it wasn't for the Turkish expansionism there wouldn't be a Cyprus problem today because they wouldn't bring any Settlers on our island or at least they would take them back when their rule was over. And don't forget that they give to their settlers more rights than to native Cypriots. If they accepted democracy then a small Turkish minority wouldn't be a problem for anybody. But in that case Cyprus would be ruled by Cypriots. And Turks don't want that. They want to have the control of Cyprus. This is the big picture of the Cyprus problem.
