But why did they send so many young men to a needless early death in WWI? For what?

If we have learnt one thing, it's to fight for freedom and nothing more!

I am so proud Cyprus is trying to negotiate its way out of this theft of its freedom by the Turks; through negotiations ... But if the right solution (i.e. a united, free and democratic Cyprus) is not agreed upon by talk ... what then? Who is going to support us to rid our land of this Hun-Turk?

Well part of it was fought in the hope to split Turkey up that's for sure, now she is being blamed for the same thing, the irony is so god dam bright we all need sun glasses...

I tell you what is even a bigger irony, is the fact that people in Turkey were having exactly the same thoughts as you Oracle, when they were fighting off the Greek army, for a united free and democratic Turkey.

They got NO help, so if you get no help from anyone, than you can do exactly as they did, fight till the end like mad dogs and TAKE it!

Time you took your pea-brain out of Turkey's arse and got a proper education because if it weren't for Russia you'd be singing the Zorba today.

Define "sponging" since you seem so well acquainted with this term.

County regiments, city regiments, company men who all enlisted in the same regiment. All off to "fight the Hun" as some put it.
All put into the mincing machine of death, created by those that should have known better - "Lions led by donkeys"
After four years of unspeakable horror, death and destruction, an Armistice was called - With the opponents finishing up literally where they had started four years previously.
And for what did they die? 20 years later it all started again.
Go to the menin gate and listen to the last post that is played every night and look at the names there...no return home for them.
And still in the 21st Century the strident voices of patriotism and the flag waving clowns demand death as the solution to all ills...
Have we learned nothing by these peoples sacifice.

The above crosses may represent a days harvest of death. Now the British are crying over a few hundred over a peiod of a years fighting.

What for, was all that carnage for. Germany and Japan have invaded the whole world now, not with bayonets but with hard work. Was it futile? Ask the poor families. May they all rest in peace. Let us NEVER have to see those days again; ever.

From a recent retiree of thirty years of full and part time service, I see or hear no crying from the British public.
I see or hear no crying from British soldiers either, no flag waving, patriotism, just men and women doing a job.
There will always be wars, always be killing and always be people willing to stand up and be counted while others poke fun and criticise. I for one was proud to serve with brave men and women of all nationalities, may those that never returned home rest in peace.
