The Unifying Power of the Cypriot Peoples' Language

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

You know, for a "liberal" you use a lot of threats aimed at silencing people ... are you sure you are 'comfortable' in a free-speaking forum?

Some of the things you say are unacceptable, Oracle. Accusing me (and Bill) of being "Turks" of "Turkifying the island" over and over again, because we take a different view to you... I'm sorry. It's unacceptable. Stop it, please.

I will .... if you stop eroding Cyprus' Greek heritage!

I am a proud Cypriot. I do not want to erode any aspect of Cyprus's unique heritage. You've got me all wrong. And that's the problem.

Let's stand back and view the carnage .... All we've done is dissect different views on one issue - language. So, we feel passionate about it! That's great .... we're human.

And as civilised humans, we can put our differences aside at the end of the day!

Greece may well have some Cypriot heritage but the other way round is a little difficult... just as your great grandfather couldn’t have possibly inherited anything from you!

Nazi commie.... That's a new one!

Come on, yialousa. I said that 'cos your cretinous friends were insulting the president. And, if he really was the evil Commie you all paint him out to be, that's what he'd do to you!

I'm not a commie. I never have been. It's an ideology from another era. But I am a supporter of Christofias. I think he's doing a good job.

And so, yes, I am happy your friends spent a few days in jail. And that would suggest they are cretinous.

Even The Cypriot has admitted (by comparison to Spanish and Portuguese) that CY is a dialect of Greek! :D

Que?

Our dear O, a minority, albeit a vociferous minority, of one member, does not agree that CY is a Language. Surely we must be consistent and allow the majority view to preview, with perhaps a note of the single dissenting view so that we may move on?

:P ...... ........ :D

I'd watch it if I was you or you will be labled as a Turk too.

With all these Turks coming out of the woodworks, the GCs will surely be outnumbered. Poor O, all alone with her dog.

Worry ye not , o fair Oracle, there will always be room for you in the ---- --- of my heart.

Anyway, I think it is too late to attempt to revive Gibrislica and Gibreia. It will just remain as a sweet memory in the older generations mind. The only 'unifying' language' we can honestly look forward to will be the 'English' language (or Chinese? ).

That is one unlucky dog. I hope it’s not Karabaş breed.

I also hope she has her place at the bottom of your heart.

And no it is not too late, it’s a matter of reversing a 49 year policy on both sides. It may take another 49 years to get it back, but it is possible.

Do you think the 'gara sakals' will be re-patriated Yfred? There will be enough around to change the language forever. The only Gibrislija will be spoken by those in the diaspora. The younger generation will keep on learning Turkish in the Saturday schools woth an English accent; soon that will disappear too.
