Halil,

Is that meant to be "Aredhiou" and not "Arechiou" as your picture shows, because Aredhiou is my mother's village and if it's the same village as you are talking about, I'll ask her if she knows anything about a mosque and cemetery being destroyed. I visited my mother's village 2 years ago and I do not recall seeing a mosque there. The question I want to know from my mother is, if there ever was a mosque in her village.

It is called Aretyu in Turkish .

These pictures has been published and documented by Talat office and it was given to UN, EU and rest of the diplomatic sources around the world .

They have been also filmed .

I condemn it.

Why won't you condemn the systematic desecration of a whole graveyard, halil? Do they have a gun to your head?

T C you have changed since you've come back. If you read Halil's last post he clearly condemns the desecrations on both sides.

I know. Our posts crossed. Please condemn also and give auntie O something to think about! She seems to have the wrong idea about TCs...

Any others, like Halil, willing to do the same? How about you YFred? Or you runaway? Will you stand together with Halil and condemn what happened to that graveyard?

At the end if we wanna live together in this island we will decide Cypriot how we can live in Cyprus not the third countries .... like EU ,USA ,Russia ,Greece or Turkey or others ..... the way u are trying to show all the time nothing happened to Turkish Cypriots in this island suddenly bloody jerkish arm came to Cyprus and fucked on everything .(thats what i get all from your writings)

It sounds like it's my mothers village from the direction you have given. It is about 20-25 kilometers South-West of Nicosia.

When I wrote my experience visiting Cyprus in 2007, I did mention that my mother's village was Aredhiou, and Bananiot upon reading that, did mention that he knew 2 young man, TCs being killed from that village. You mentioned 5 being shot, so I'm surprised that Bananiot knew only about 2 men, not 5.!

Cypriot below Cyprus article dedicated to ORACLE and HER CO's
Event to reward unsung heroes of Cyprus strife
By Rebecca Bailey

TEN “UNSUNG heroes” of Cyprus were commemorated last night for acts of courage and humanity in times of war, in a ceremony that took place at the Municipal Information Centre on Nicosia’s Green Line.

The four Turkish Cypriots and six Greek Cypriots were honoured for having saved and protected members of the ‘other side’ during the inter-communal conflicts of the 50s and 60s, and the invasion of 1974.

Commemorative plaques and olive branches were presented to the men, in some cases by those whom they had saved. In an emotional celebration, their stories were heard through firsthand accounts or through the testimony of their families. In several cases, those involved were still classified as ‘missing’.

The bi-communal event was organised primarily by the Stop the War Coalition-Cyprus, along with around 20 other organisations and activists, among them the Cyprus Green Party and Hands Across the Divide.

The ceremony was initially conceived by Sevgul Uludag, a Turkish Cypriot journalist known for her work on the issue of those missing since 1974.

Amongst the multinational audience were the family and friends of those involved, as well as general supporters of rapprochement. Others came to narrate their own experiences of those who, as one man described it, “in the midst of the tragedy showed their humanity.”

The ceremony was presented by Uludag but conducted in both Greek and Turkish. It was followed by a short musical programme by a bi-communal band.

“We express a very big ‘efharisto’ or ‘teshekkurler’ to those who, with courage and humanity, saved not only human lives but human values, and the hope for future peace,” stated Phaedon Vassiliades, of Stop the War Coalition–Cyprus.

As Halil said, it has happened on both sides. We must condemn these acts and punish the culprits.

Below is a grave in my village (posted by Halil) of an 18 year old relative who got killed in a traffic accident in the 50's. There were more Greek Cypriots at her funeral than Turkish Cypriots.

What happened after 1974 is unacceptable. We are human beings, lets behave like human beings. Sickening.

Deniz, I sense you are a man able to tell the difference between what is the "rule" and what is the "exception." It is a fact that destruction and /or looting of GC or Christian heritage in the north is the rule, but the opposite in the south is rather the exception, without this to mean that it is not equally unacceptable and condemnable.

I know Kifeas and condemn the actions you mention. In my post above, I think I was highlighting the numbers of fellow Greek Cypriots attending the funeral and then these events take place. Still, they should all be condemned and both communities should accept responsibility for these dreadful actions.

I also find it distasteful that some will gloat at others misery. Shameful really.

It's a good start.

halil wrote:U are the ones always opening those propaganda topics in here while we are talking for a peace in this island than i respond .

But we need to condemn these outrages, learn from them so that they never happen again, to ensure peace on this island.

halil wrote:by trying to divert the world public only for one sided ideas always gets my reactiones and it will get in future as well .

Fine. The destruction in the north has been systematic, coordinated and continuing. How can we have peace unless it stops?

That's a little unfair in my view but I'll bear it in mind...

I really hope Cypriots can decide how to live together without third countries. But how can Cypriots in the north do so without Turkey? Isn't that the problem?

There appears to be four...

Niyazi Cemal (39) Aredhiou Köyü 27.12.1963
Salih Mehmet (55) Aredhiou Köyü 29.12.1963
Kemal Hüseyin (34) Aredhiou Köyü 29.12.1963
Nail Hüseyin (19) Aredhiou Köyü 29.12.1963

...but check with your mum now that you've got names etc.
