Gibralter has always been known as `The Gateway to the Mediterrean` and as such it has always been stategically important. People who say it should be handed over to Spain should remember that Spain has territories on the other side of the Med, in North Africa, which it is showing no signs of `handing back`. Do we really want any one country to be able, technically, to control the entrance to the Med this way ?

Yes this was what the ancient Greeks called it, but everything the Greeks named was not necessarily part of Greece. Anyway the important thing is what the people of Gibralter want, If THEY want to remain British, then they should remain British. This is what democracy is all about!
P.S. I have`nt heard that they wish to be Greek!
