Oh well, looks like Turkey is staying in Cyprus until/if it gets into the EU.

I think Turkey not making it in the EU is probably one of the best things that can happen to it, and probably one of the worst things that can happen to the 'RoC' :lol:

I agree about Turkey's fortunes being better, in the long run, out of the EU.

But Cyprus is not badly affected. It will simply force the GCs to mature even more politically and realise that the contest is much lengthier and far lonelier than they had ever thought. And that is not such a bad thing. Nothing has spurred GC society forward more than the sudden need to survive as a cohesive unit after 1974. Another such dose of medicine will do them good.

Addressing his Justice and Development Party's (AK Party) delegates in Ankara at the provincial congress on Sunday, Erdoğan stressed that Ankara is walking confidently on the road to EU membership but if the 27-nation bloc “makes a mistake” and derails this process, “it will not be doomsday for Turkey.”

hmmm 27 nation bloc?...suddendly recognition?... :lol:

Maybe, but considering the EU chip will be off the table, there isn't really a whole lot left for you to bargain with is there?

In fact, that was probably the only element you could pressure Turkey with.

turkey is not going to leave cyprus willingly...you know it and everyone knows it....just look at the red lines they set up....now ask your self if they wanted a proper solution you think they wouldn't have had it by now?

in the words of ecevit, the problem was solved in '74...you think anything changed during all these years?...

i say veto their asses in december...and see where that takes us...coz so far it's taking us nowhere...

what's there to bargain with shah?...the red lines took care of that...

Before the EU integrates with Turkey it will have to meet strict accession criteria:
1. A statue of Atataturk on every street corner;
2. A giant Turkish flag painted onto the Alps;
3. Freedom of the Turkish military to interfere in the running of everything - or we fix you;
4. Mosques.... build more mosques - everywhere;
5. An addendum that all Cypriots are evil murders to be enshrined into EU law;
6. All European citizens to be known as Euro Turks or Turks of Europe, or just Turks - or we fix you;
6a. The Euro to be renamed the Turko;
7. All European properties to be confiscated and sold to overweight British petty-criminals on the cheap;
8. Brussels to be divided in two, half belonging to Turks, the other half belonging to Belgians of Turkish origin;
9. Cornwall to be sold to Israeli developers.
10. Mosques.... build more mosques everywhere;
11. Northern Ireland to be renamed Turkish Republic of Northern Ireland;
12. Europe invades China and renames it Turkey.
12. All European countries to write a grovelling apology to the Turkish nation for disliking it so much for no reason;
13. Cypriots have to remember what happened in 1963 - or we fix you;
14. Any new plan for further integration into Turkey to be known as Annan Plan;
15. The Eurovision to be renamed the Turkovision and everyone give Turkey douze points enshrined into EU law.
