i got this net gear router coming back from holiday at the air port and everytimke i plug it in the stupid router switches off every 10 seconds on its own.. have you ever heard of such a problem ?

Netgear, are usually good equipment. I suspect it’s overheating and an option in its BIOS is enabled to turn itself off past a certain temperature.

To test this theory put a (house) fan directly in front of it to keep it cool and turn it on again to see if it’ll switch itself off with all that wind blowing on it.

yes netgear offer very good and cheap routers and very pratical to manage. For example the latest is the DGN2000 that for 70/80 euros give you everything.

Yes are quite hot the netgear a bit scaring, but they said it's normal that the chip is so hot.

I've got this Netgear 2000 router/modem and yes it get's very hot. Had it for 3 months. This heat is normal?

Not too long ago the average home didn’t have this kind of equipment to worry about but with the advent of DSL Internet access and affordable cable/wireless networking equipment they’re now all over the place, but one thing we forget is that serious businesses have always had 24-hour air-conditioned cool rooms where all this equipment is kept on racks at around 25°C!

I’m starting to regret not installing a temperature controlled cabinet to keep all this stuff in… :(

With my Netgear 2000, I've got it suspended in mid-air to help dissipate some of the heat!

Very happy with my wireless Belkin, especially after it went haywire and their support team couldn't fix it. They sent me a new one (the original was 3 years old), they didn't want the old one back and I discovered the problem was a conflict with my wireless phones. So I now have 2 very serviceable Belkin wireless routers.

That's odd... did you bring the phones from abroad?

I discovered the same thing!

If I stand my Panasonic DECT phone next to my Cytanet router the connection gets (even) slower!

Wireless phones must have their own little region set aside on the spectrum of bandwidths... perhaps the UK’s wireless phone region conflicts with Cyprus’ wireless network region… :?

I think you will find that all wireless kit (phones, routers, speakers, etc.) work in the 2.4GHz range, and have a limited choice of channels within that.
