Netgear, are usually good equipment. I suspect it’s overheating and an option in its BIOS is enabled to turn itself off past a certain temperature.

To test this theory put a (house) fan directly in front of it to keep it cool and turn it on again to see if it’ll switch itself off with all that wind blowing on it.

I thought that the original poster meant a routermodem, not just a plain old router??

If thats the case, all ISPs provide their own in Cyprus. Primetel, Otenet and Cablenet have VoIP going through the modems. The modem itself is configured for the VoIP. For security reasons, and rightly so, they will not give details out for logging onto the modem.

Should a customer have his own modem, something goes wrong on the line, then they won't be able to remotely check to see what is going on.

With CyTA, then they give access to a certain degree.

Otenet will bridge their modems on corperate accounts so the customer can do his own port forwarding etc.

yes netgear offer very good and cheap routers and very pratical to manage. For example the latest is the DGN2000 that for 70/80 euros give you everything.

Yes are quite hot the netgear a bit scaring, but they said it's normal that the chip is so hot.

Yes! My original post is for a router adsl, not just a router. So till now still any answer from somebody that connected directly the router WITHOUT attach it to the modem/router of cyta/primatel.

I wait still for some help.

Thanks

Some laptop brand/models suffer a lot from overheating because of crappy Heat Spreaders that are installed at the factory. A Heat Spreader is basically a metal plate, a fan, heat sink, and temperature sensor that fastens tightly over the processor. You can see what one looks like here on this site…

http://www.impactcomputers.com/273495-001.html

Luckily, after the keypad, the Heat Spreader is the cheapest replacement part you can get for a laptop ($25..55) so there’s nothing wrong with having it replaced if that’s the culprit that the laptop keeps shutting down, and it usually is because the heat sensor stops reading the temperature correctly so it sends the wrong signal to the processor to give to the BIOS. (Too hot = shuts down constantly OR Always Ok = fan always stays off when it should come on at times!)
