TURKISH NAVY FRIGATES OPEN TO PUBLIC VISITS UNTIL 21ST OF JULY

As part of the 35th anniversary celebrations of the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day 2 frigates from the Turkish Navy have arrived in the waters of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Fleet-Commander Admiral Abdullah Gavremoglu who has command of the vessels, placed a wreath at the Girne Ataturk Monument to pay his respects.

The TCG Giresun and the TCG Zafer frigates will be open to the public on Monday the 20th of July from 10am till noon and from 2pm to 6pm.
2 other ships that will be carrying 3rd year students from the Turkish Navy, TCG Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Pasa and the TCG Sokullu Mehmet Pasa will be arriving in Girne tomorrow.

These too will be open for visits to the public at the same times.
All ships belonging to the Turkish Navy will be leaving the island on the 21st of July.


GENERAL ERGIN SAYGUN: WE WILL ALWAYS PROTECT THE TRNC
PEOPLE


Within the framework of the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day Celebrations, the Chief of General Staff of the Turkish Peace Forces Ergin Sayhun is in the Turkish Republic of the Northern Cyprus representing the Turkish Armed Forces.

Within the framework of his visit to the TRNC the General was recieved by President Mehmet Ali Talat, Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Hasan Bozer and Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu.
The message he conveyed during his visits was that the Turkish Peace Forces would always stand by the Turks of Cyprus and are determined to safeguard them.

Speaking during the visit President Mehmet Ali Talat said the 20th July Peace Operation was carried to prevent the Greek Junta and their plans of ENOSIS.

Turkey fulfilled its obligations stemming from its rights from the treaty of guarantees and protected the Turks of Cyprus and from that day forward we have never felt fear again’, said the President.

Noting that they have been acting with the realization that the 20th of July Turkish Peace Operation had liberated the Turks of Cyprus who had been suffering for many years, the President said we have sacrificed many things and given many martyrs to come to this day.

Noting that there were no security problems currently on the island, the President of the Republic said the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces are a part of the Turkish Armed Forces and play an important part in the peace atmosphere that is on the island.

General Saygun handed over the Turkish Chief of Staff General Ilker Basbug’s message to President Talat.
In response President Talat handed over a message to be given to Staff General Basbug to General Saygun.

The General then paid a visit to Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu.
Speaking here the Prime Minister underlined the importance of the 20th July Peace Operation and added that Turkey had rescued the Turks in Cyprus from genocide and with the geographical changes a Turkish State had been created.

Noting that as the government they were working for the welfare of the Turks of Cyprus under the roof of the state and we are aware of the fact that motherland Turkey and the Turkish Armed Forces are protecting us.
For his part General Ergin Saygur said the Turkish Armed Forces will always be by the side of the Turks of Cyprus and would never allow for the repetition of the past.

Will the Kocatepe destroyer also be open to the public? (for those members of the public well versed in sub aqua diving, of course)

Cyprus navy? What are you on about? The Kocatepe was a Turkish destroyer.

Just wondered if amongst all the fanfare about the frigates' "visit" and the opening of same to public visits, there would be any mention of the Kocatepe, that's all. Are they also planning a ceremonial fly-past of the TAF, perhaps including those squadrons that sank the Kocatepe?

runaway where are you? if in the TRNC did you see the Turkish Airforce praticing in Girne today?

They were great....everyone was watching them on the beaches while sun bathing.
