Abbas does NOT back Greek stand on Cyp issue

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Abbas does NOT back Greek stand on Cyp issue

Postby runaway » Sat Jul 18, 2009 11:25 am

Sorry guys the dream is over

The Palestinian leader recently dominated the agenda in Turkey after reports circulated that he had made remarks supporting the Greek Cypriot side during a visit to the southern part of the divided island. The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Palestinian envoy for further explanation. In reply to a question at the press conference, Abbas said the claims were baseless and fabricated.

President Abdullah Gül said Friday that any efforts to achieve the creation of a Palestinian state could fail without the consent of important actors.

“Turkey, at every occasion, supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state whose capital is East Jerusalem, but we believe in order to reach such a result, doing something without the consent of important actors will bring no benefits,” Gül told a joint press conference with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Ankara.

“This could even turn out to be harmful,” he added. “Turkey is ready to do its best on the road to be followed as long as there is a compromise on that.”

I wonder if Gül was using the "trnc" as an example.??

He was probably telling Abbas, "Learn from history my friend and don't make the same mistakes".!

runaway... that's because he never said he supported the 'Greek Cypriot side' in the first place, as your incredibly foolish, myopic press and parliamentary speaker 'interpreted' on 11 July:

Köksal Toptan: "It is not possible for us to interpret Abbas' remarks in a different way."

Abbas supports Cyprus's occupied lands to be free from Turkey's military and settlers; as Palestine's occupied lands should be free of Israel's military and settlers.

This is not the 'Greek Cypriot side'. This is the side of Cyprus and its people as a whole, the side of international law and the side of human rights. Supporting anything else would be hypocrisy and hugely damaging to the Palestinian cause.

And if you can't see that you are as foolish and myopic as your press and politicians.

They support freedom, you fool. They support an end to occupation and settlement of other people's lands. How could they support anything else, given their situation?

What foolish thread am I meant to have opened?

Palestinians never supported you. They waved Turkish flags in Ramallah but I have never seen Greek or south cypriotic flags over there. And Mr.Christofias' comment about being brothers with Palestinians was more than funny.

runaway, are we going to have a debate or are you going to play silly buggers?

Palestinians do not support 'Greeks' ahead of 'Turks' or vice versa, in Cyprus or beyond. This isn't a football match where you pick a side to support. They have solidarity with the Cypriot people who are also suffering from the illegal occupation of their lands. That is why Christofias would have used the word 'brothers'. Please try and think for yourself for once instead of just swallowing the rubbish your press and politicians feed you.

says who? Of course countries can support friendly ones over others. Weren't you the ones blindly supporting Serbs when they were slaughtering Bosniaks and Albanians? and you can be sure that Palestinians don't and won't support you in any platform against Turks.

He said "big actors" Kikapu.

Obviously he was not talking about the RoC.

So he can't be talking about the TRNC.

He probably meant that Turkey's opinion is also important.

As far as I'm concerned I do not consider Palestinians as either brothers , cousins or long lost relatives.
Similarities exist there is no denying but the differences are too fundamentally different.
We are not waging , and never have done , a war against innocent civilians , we have never considered death as an alternative preference to life , we are millions of miles apart .
