The future according to the TC negotiator

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The future according to the TC negotiator

Postby Nikitas » Sat Jul 18, 2009 10:42 am

In today's Athens News there are interviews with the main actors in the Cyprus negotiations.

According to the TC negotiator the outcome they envisage contains the following:

Property return- the current occupier decides the future of the property effectively excluding the original owner, ie there is a permanent deviation from human rights conventions on this point

Foreign armies- they want 900 Greek and 650 Turkish troops remaining forever

Territory- No less than 29 per cent under TC administration. In conjunction with the the property deal in effect it means an ethnic division of territory and property based on a 30-70 split

The economy is structured along separate lines but the GCs must pay for the equalisation of the per capita income within a decade.

The choice is obvious for GCs- STOP THE NEGOTIATIONS NOW. This is a mickey mouse process in which the TCs want legalisation of the status quo in the north and a partnership in the south and a state under permanent suzerainty to foreigners. There is NOTHING positive to come out of negotiating with a side that wants the other to permanently deny its human rights and to accept a dininished application of EU aquis for ever.

Niki, can you please provide a link ? Are these main actors X and Talat ? Who could be this negotiator ? Why names aren't mentioned ? Could you please give us local links (Cyprus) quoting this Athenian source ?
The reason why I am asking this is because recently I read how either To Vima or Ethnos cooked up an imaginary interview held with Erdogan during his trip in Athens. Unfortunately Erdogan had cancelled his trip before, so that this so-called interview turned out to be what is called "Asparagus News" in Turkish media jargon. Too bad that I have thrown the newspaper (Cumhuriyet) away or I would have gladly translated for you.
Still....
Hey wait ! I have found a related link:

The title says To Vima Editor-in-Chief apologized for presenting Erdogan's trip in Greece as if it really occurred.

Cem, since you are disputing the validity of the interview, are you also claiming that the above are not among the positions of the TC side? If they are not, could you please tell us which ones they are, at least on the issues mentioned above?

A reminder that the talks are based on the following ...

1. The past high level agreements.
2. Within UN resolutions calling for (amongst other things) a BBF with a withdrawal of the Turkish Army.
3. Within UN "parameters", which include a respect for property rights and other matters.

Turkey and its Occupation Regime should respect all the above cos so far we're hearing far too much from them that goes against these parameters and near bugger all from them to show much respect for them.

We're still hearing what we've been hearing for 35 years, measures to hang onto the Spoils of War.

I am not claiming anything at all, as I distrust the T/C press as well since what we have here is:

1) a complete blackout from official sources (Talat & Ercakica) regarding the progress with negotiations except that Talat gave signs of haste to complete all rounds by 2010 and submit them to referandum before presidential elections. Now signs of haste could be interpreted as both positive and negative sign. If interpreted positively, it implies that so far all has gone so well so that he would like to use the benefits of progress in approaching presidential campaign to score against his opponents. If interpreted negatively, no agreement on vital matters has been reached so far and that he hurries to jump into next chapter in an effort to dig up a mutually agreeable issue to show that he is at least trying something.

2) On the other hand, comments and round table discussions of the Cyprus talks in various media sources with different political leanings prompts me to take them with a pinch of salt.

That is why I had asked Niki to provide me a link in RoC media quoting similar issues such as the one above as I can't trust To Vima and the likes anymore.
