Yes. The ancient Greeks were great. May I congratulate you on the immense contribution your mother's distant, distant ancestors made to humanity. You're clearly very proud.

And no doubt, if you were half-Egyptian you'd be waxing lyrical about how great the ancient Egyptians were and what wonders they'd achieved. And I'd congratulate you in turn.

I, of course, am fully Cypriot, with a fully Cypriot world view. So forgive me if I indulge myself; and swell with pride knowing that it was actually a Cypriot who seeded the idea of the immorality of slavery.

I only learnt that today. You'd have thought this sort of stuff would be taught to Cypriots in schools. It's almost as though some were deliberately trying to deny us important aspects of our unique heritage, and claim it for themselves.

Zeno was a Greek of Cyprus and he became a Greek philosopher once he went to Greece to study with other Greek philosophers who influenced him greatly.

He did not deny his Greekness in seeking to live his life and it was merely incidental which Greek island of the time he happened to be born on ... he was Greek! 8) :D

An insecure Greek might see it that way. A proud Cypriot might take a different perspective.

He had talent, focus, dedication, looks (well maybe not!) and got lucky. The Beatles broke America. Zeno broke Greece.

We Cyprus-born Cypriots* are not prepared to share anything with foreign imperialists until they swear their allegiance to the Cypriot motherland.

(*actually I was born in London - but please indulge me for the sake of poetic licence)
