My parents are Cypriot. My grand parents were Cypriot. Beyond that who knows? Why are you trying to deny me my real heritage? You're no different to the British denying the Athenians their Marbles. Give me my heritage back! God is great. Once you've done that perhaps he'll return your Marbles.

Epsilon, this is what I think of your ideas on ethnicity:

Rubbish! 'Koubes' are Greek; Athenian. The Brazilians just stole them and put them in a museum in Rio de Janeiro.

No my friend. My ideas of what i am based on my feelings/language/culture and on top of all on the fact that THERE IS NOT A CYPRUS ETHNICITY.

Well don't deny me my feelings/language/culture (I gave you links which you ignored last time) and I won't deny you yours.

And just because you put things in capital letters, it doesn't make it so.

Those are just some of the things made by people whose values we respect. Those people aspired to self-improvement, to building a future where men were equal, judged on their actions, and many more worthwhile ideals adopted the world-over.

If the stones are in ruins, they were never erected to stand forever ... But the move to democracy and individual freedom was seeded and that is the flame we inherit; and each generation has to improve upon the germinating civilisation, and not allow it to end in ruins just because we face another enemy of humankind ....

The ruins remind me of a school poem (by Shelley), which reflects Man's vanity and the the fact that nothing he builds lasts for ever, whatever he may think:

In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.
We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragments huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

It was of course the Stoics (followers of the famous Cypriot philosopher Zeno of Citium) who produced the first condemnation of slavery recorded in history.

Do please look into slavery in Greece, thousands of years ago, in context, and not compared to the more recent slave trade. Often slavery was preferable to returning after losing in wars, or finding food and shelter in a gruelling world.

More importantly, it was part of the crucial way they addressed the importance of freedom. And as I said, they seeded the continuing search for civilisation; I didn't say they were given long enough to make it all happen, 100% perfect ... Even we, so long after, have still not completed the path they started ... and some present more obstacles than others!
