yes I know they are useless, meaningless pseudo elections .... no doubt about that just testing to see if at least on the face of it the enclaved GC's the forgotten people of Cyprus are given equal rights to others in the occupied territory .... so before our fellow TC's cry inequality may be they need to start in their own backyard.

Andrea,

You are expecting too much. The process since 1974 is one of conquest and annexation. That is why the TCs numbers have halved in this time and the settlers multiplied. In this situation expecting the GCs of the north to have the vote is a little unrealistic.

H asks an interesting question which requires a definitive answer.

I have managed to find the following rather dated piece of information, quoted from a report entitled 'CYPRUS HUMAN RIGHT PRACTICES, 1994' by the U.S. Department of State dated February 1995:

http://dosfan.lib.uic.edu/ERC/democracy ... yprus.html

Greek Cypriots and Maronites living in the north are barred by law from participating in Turkish Cypriot elections but may choose their own village officials. They are eligible to vote in Greek Cypriot elections but must travel to the south to exercise that right.

I wonder if the situation has changed since then.
