Such a practice may or may not be normal BUT, when one observes some of the greedy bastards who load up their plates well beyond their capacity, one can understand the value in such a move by the proprietor of the restaurant.

As I understand it, one is at liberty to replenish one's plate IF in an establishment that operates the 'Eat as much as you can' system.

Actually, thinking about it, not a bad idea. IMHO.

(Which in no way implies that I am in agreement with the North you understand).

not really i dont understand it,.. u charge X amount for food and it shouldent make a difference what i do with this food i can throw it away or just leave it there.. doesent make it ok to charge extra..maybe at the time of putting the food i feel i will eat it.. but if he doesent like it ( the owner ) then he or she should just charge extra to begin with.

Still there are those who overload their plates to such an extent that a horse could not consume it.

The idea (possibly) is to discourage greed, if THAT be the case, then I do feel that it is quite an effective manner in which to deal with the problem of excessive waste.

The extra charge (if there be one) should depend wholly on the amount wasted and at the discretion of the proprietor.

The case you mention does seem to be a bit harsh (if you can rely on the 'Little piece of crust' explanation) BUT, overall. I still think it is quite a good idea providing 'Greed' and Waste' ARE the reasons for applying such rules.

Halil,

Can you verify if this's true? I know it will be a little hard for you to leave some food in your plate...but you have too, I don't see any other way... :)
