Which University is best

Postby Plato » Sat Jul 11, 2009 3:53 pm

Hi guys!

I was hoping you all could give me your personal opinions on which University you think has the most prestige, and would look best on my CV when trying to get a job in law. Please list them in your order of preference. Thanks!

University of Nottingham
University of Birmingham
University of Warwick
University of Durham
University of Manchester
University of Bristol

Try The Times online under the Education search for Best Universities. They give a load of facts and figures for all the ones you mention plus many others in other towns. Also supplied are percentages of students finding employment after graduation, life at individual universities as well as picking a subject and the unis ranked as best in that particular one.

Thanks for the reply.

I have looked at that, but I am told that the rankings aren't as important as the prestige and name of the University, because the rankings change every year. So I was just wondering what people thought on here, as to which University would look best on my CV.

I know you get a choice of a certain number of universities when you apply for a place, so can only suggest you research each thoroughly when you know what subject you want to specialise in.

If you start a course and then change your mind, it can mean re-applying to the university of your choice and waiting until the following year. The places are being made more difficult to obtain and there have been some newspaper reports that fewer applicants are being offered places - not to mention increased tuition fees!

Annaka.

You are correct about the rankings.

Nevertheless, you have chosen wisely. All your choices are Russell Group Universities (research prestigious) apart from Durham.

For social life I would rate Bristol and they have a very active Law Department. Warwick has a good campus though, and accommodation may be cheaper.

Why?

Perception is everything. I want personal opinions on which University people regard as most prestigious. What is ridiculous about that?

If you don't know anything about UK Universities, do not comment!

Why don't you pretend you went to Oxford and/or Cambridge instead? Your CV would be all bollocks anyway...
