Have a look at it again…

“I was hoping you all could give me your personal opinions on which University you think has the most prestige, and would look best on my CV when trying to get a job in law.”

It comes across as if you’ve already done your studies but you want to modify your CV so that your uni appears more "prestigious"!

We obviously have very different styles of interpretation, because I don't think the above is saying that at all. Sure, if you are being highly presumptuous, it is possible to reach your conclusion, but it is far easier to conclude that I am trying to decide which University to attend on the basis of which would look best on my CV.

In any event, whether I am attending one of the Universities or not is irrelevant to the actual question. All I wanted were simple opinions on which University is most prestigious. That is why I purposely didn't go into much detail as to why I was asking this question.

Don't be too hasty ... he also recommended "METU" in the past  ... Also, he doesn't seem to have a clue about Russel Group status!

It's true that I didn't mention the Russell [double l, not single l] group but not because I "don't have a clue", but because in itself the Russell Group is not a mark of quality or reputation. Equally I didn't mention the '94 Group for the same reason, of which Durham is a member.

Regarding METU - no quotation marks needed - it is indeed a very good university, and that's why I recommended it. METU has been involved in collaborative research, exchanges, research initiatives, etc, for decades with both Russell Group universities and '94 Group universities, as well as Oxford and Cambridge. If I hear complaints from those universities about METU I might be inclined to change my mind about METU, but not because some anonymous internet poster makes some sneering comment.

Are you always this opinionated ?

Edit :
PS. Having just read some other posts by you, I realise that I might have stumbled into the resident forum troll. There's always one

"METU" [sic] is built on ethnically cleansed, racially segregated territory, and administered by illegally occupying forces and their paid employees ...

Funny you should feel the need to bring up "trolls", as you are on very shaky ground with a number of inconsistencies in ONLY 14 posts!

Perhaps you can start by tackling this statement of yours ...

Russell Group is not a mark of quality or reputation

... as you seem to be the only "academic" I have heard spout such an "opinion"!

Ah ha, I see. I think that I've got a measure of your type. The type who troll The type who have time to waste creating false battles.

As you well know I didn't write that "the Russell Group is not a mark of quality or reputation" : what I wrote is "because in itself the Russell Group is not a mark of quality or reputation." This has a totally different meaning to that which you ascribed to me.

As far as I'm concerned my initial suspicions of your troll-like response (to an exchange which was none of your business, not directed at you) are amply confirmed by that last little piece of deceit and dishonesty. Goodbye.
