The virtues of the Cyprus bee

Postby Tim Drayton » Thu Jul 09, 2009 12:13 pm

From an article in the New York Times dated July 17, 1884:

It may interest the amateur bee keeper to learn that the Cyprus bee is considered the best. The Italian is the largest, and is an excellent worker, probably the best of all. But the Cyprus bee, although nearly or quite as small as the native, is such an active little fellow and so pugnacious withal, that he not only does a great deal of work, but what is very important in honey producing for profit, he will not permit neighbouring bees to rob him.

A true Cypriot! :D

I wonder if the little fellas are still going strong; or have foreign bees taken over?
