We should ask Halil or Iceman to let us know who pays for these statues??
Must be like the Koh-i-noor, bought for (was it?) Victoria by public subscription by peasants? (is that accurate? I better check it out)
Who do you think pays for them Deniz? Who pay's for just about all public works in the north?
Apparently when the Lefkosa Turk Belediyesi ( TC municipality of Nicosia) where conducting meetings about building a new Mosque over the existing bus terminal, the the Turkish Embassy official couldn't work out why most of the board was opposing the project. Quoting Yeniduzen he said "I don't know why you're all complaining, after all Turkey is gonna pay for it".
I know who pays for everything Umit. It was a sarcastic comment. I could not see it as a 'money venture' as only Turks of Turkey would benefit. As it does in all things.
Sorry . You would know now things are in Turkey when it comes to Ataturk. When I was in high school in ear 11 we had a class called "Milli Guvenlik Dersi" , roughly translated as "National Security" an army officer would come into class for 40 minutes every week for one term. He'd talk about Ataturk and the Army mixed with some history. I remember we used to drive the guy who came to our class completely nuts. He was having a very hard time coping with the shit we made him go through. The guy was having a smoke outside every 10 minutes or so. One time one of my classmates put on his cap, which he had left on the teachers desk while he was having a smoke and started impersonating him. That was the only time we actually got him start shouting.
