However it doesn’t occur in any other African countries, at least as far as I know. Could it be just a coincidence that it happens in those two countries which also happen to be predominately Moslem?

it happens in many many more places of the world and it is tied to religious believes. Not good ones though in my opinion as its derogative, dangerous in matter of health and sometimes even deadly as not done under clinic surroundings. It should be banned once and for all.

As it can be seen, not all countries are Muslim and not all Muslim or Arab countries practice Female Genital Cutting. It's basically a tirbal practice in some parts of the world, mostly in Africa.

From the UNFPA web site: http://www.unfpa.org/gender/faq_fgc.htm#12

In which countries is FGC practised?

The practice is common in parts of Africa, Asia and in some Arab Countries. It is practiced among communities in : Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire , Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda.

FGC is also practiced among certain ethnic groups in a number of Asian countries (India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan); among some groups in the Arabian Peninsula (in Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen); and among certain immigrant communities in Europe, Australia, Canada and the USA.

Mete, do you believe that I do not know about this issue or I do not know were I can find the right information about it. I am just provoking the discussion so that I see and measure the reactions of the various people in the forum.

First, you said something. Then, you refused what you said earlier and said you meant something else. Now you're saying the whole thing is just to provoke some people. So what's the point for all this? Can you at least give me a straight answer to that?

Cannedmoose,

For me the only interesting thing about the case of that lunatic, is what the occupied regime will do in the end. I think they will be considering his application for ever. In the meantime they will allow him sleep in his car as he was always doing (after been kicked out by his wife?)
The funniest day will be when he returns from there. I am really curious to hear what he will say. Perhaps he will complain that the Tcs damaged his "bird" ?

True, he could be kept dangling until he gets fed up and crosses back. Do you think it's likely that he'll be arrested should he return? Or do you think the authorities will just wash their hands of him and ignore him?
