Its part of a muslim tradition but above all its for cleansiness where there is less chance of getting germs, disease etc. if you have not wiped well etc.

It's a very old Tradittion going back to time immemorial
when every first born male was circumcised so he would inherit his father's estate.

Unfortunately the other sons discovered this and so they too were circuncised so as to show that they were the real heirs to the estate,

Muslims do it but It is not introduction. You can be Muslim without it, But well It would be better with it.

There is not hard age restriction, but As you easily see, when people gets older, They dont like to cut his things.

Mostly do until 7, But I know I friend did It at 15. A lot fun.

You can use anaesthesia. Aim is cutting not to feel pain.
And no ceremony.

But It is something like wedding. Its name is wedding of Sunnet. And some people call it first step to manhood.

I heard that in some Muslim countries one has to do it by obligation or by law, in order to be regarded as a Muslim. They also do something similar to women. They remove the clitoris and they stitch the vagina. I did not hear something similar in Turkey though. Or maybe it happens in some regions, I do not know.

Actually, it's not just Muslim tradition. Jews do it as well. Also many Christian Americans do it as well but not for religious purposes, supposedly it's healthier that way.

It's quite possible since Islam is being interpreted differently in different countries.

I heard about this too and I think it mainly happens in African-Muslim countries. I don't think it's Islamic to do so. I mean it's not required and it's more like an African tradition than an Islamic requirement.
