Any computer experts here?

Postby Zorba » Sun Jul 05, 2009 5:53 pm

I have been having a problem lately with me internet browser and it's getting worse.
When I click and get a page up on screen i get a blank page with the message "done" at the bottom left on the status bar. Just a click on the refresh button would get the page on screen but now it takes many clicks on the refresh button if i am lucky. The same on any site I go to. Sometimes the page comes up first go but then, say, when I click on a thread, i get a blank page again. I am using Firefox but the same happens on Internet Explorer.
Can anybody help ?

You should always start by scanning for adware/malware.

AVG is meant to be a virus scanner and a rubbish one at that. Viruses and adware/malware are two different things.

Use this for malware...

I'm no expert and the last two days I got involved with Explorer 7 and 8 for xp on my desktop, then tried to remove them and looked up some advice that suggested restore the system to an earlier date. Then it said if I had SP3 you can't remove either, so I removed that - eventually. After the system restore backdated three months it removed No. 8 and left me with No. 7. It comes up - eventually and I reverted back to using Mozilla Firefox. That gets the MSN up, but I probably did something else wrong and am now with my laptop which is Vista and I'm not mucking about any more.

Don't know if that helps, a bit long-winded though.

You haven't heard the best bit, I've only got the nerve to teach my Bulgarian cleaner and her husband, how to use a laptop. Blind leading the blind, neither of them speak a work of English and I don't know a word of Bulgarian so our common language is Greek. They are both doing well mainly thanks to Google Translate when they want medical information and cut and paste is now a doddle. They really love Skype and talk to their family every day for free.
