Do tell us when illegal Settlers last took over Sovereign territory and renamed it ?

Did I say anything about illegal settlers? As far as I am concerned they can go back from where they came from.

So why are you justifying the renaming of places in Cyprus by illegal settlers?

I said it was the 'done thing', I did not or do not justify any name changes in Cyprus. I dont know what gave you that idea agapi mou!!

I think Viewpoint does it simply to wind Cypriots up. He seems to delight in this for some reason. He seems to feed off the hurt he causes.

May be so, but I am 63 years old and since my childhood Varosia was always known as Marash to the Turkish Cypriots. Assuming VP is younger than me, he would not be familiar with the original Greek Cypriot nomenclature.

I was referring more to this statement:

"Forget all the other names it's now called Girne."

That was hurtful and deserved to be challenged.

Like Istanbul and Is tin poli;

Girne is Kerinia with a different accent. I will not say 'dont worry about it' as it obviously does.

Are Ankara/Angora, Izmir/Smyrni Iskenderun/Alexandretta in the same category. either name works. Its a description of a place. Just calm down. There are more important issues at stake.

Winding up is a common feature on the Cypfor. We get used to it whether we like it or not. I am not defending anyone, but you have to make sure that winding up of TCs does not go unnoticed!!

It's not just about "winding up" on the forum .. the reality is these name changes have taken place with obvious consequences, and the more people bring these matters up, the less likely the Turks will so easily achieve their aims!

It's part of the "We shall never forget!" mentality.

Banter is one thing; provocative, hurtful statements, designed simply to elicit outrage and an inevitable aggressive response quite another.

And then Viewpoint will turn to you, Deniz, and say. "See? How can we even contemplate reunifying with these vengeful bastards? We need a foreign military, with intervention rights in perpetuity, to protect us."

May be so, but I am 63 years old and since my childhood Varosia was always known as Marash to the Turkish Cypriots. Assuming VP is younger than me, he would not be familiar with the original Greek Cypriot nomenclature. On a similar vein, I know not any new names in the north. If I pass through Trikomo in search of some relatives I have to wonder what the new name is. My villagers now reside in Ay. Sergios (nr. Famagusta) or should I say Ammochostos. They still call it Ay Sergi. All peope are different.

At the moment I am rying to find out the oldest reference to the name Marash for Varoshia. I will find out tomorrow at work.

You are right Deniz I am younger than you and do not know Maraş by any other name, my kids just laugh at the Greek names as they cannot pronounce them in 100 years time no one will even remember that places had names other than the Turkish or English ones.

You have to come to terms with the fact that your grandchildren will not even remember the greek names of villages and towns let alone TCs who will continue to use the Turkish names. As long as there is no solution the usage of Turkish names will deepen and the old for us unpronouncable Greek names will dissapear forever. Im sorry if this is hard to accept but the division you do not acknowledge will in time naturally see these developments do take place.

Just because you tell us your children have pronunciation problems and your people have cognitive problems ... it does not mean we do!

We shall never forget, and our diction for the original, correct names is perfect.

Perhaps you can take yourself and your lisping sprats to Turkey where they can sound like frogs on heat, all the live long day!

Fucking Turk!

100 years time? An hour ago you were offering to return 'Maraş' to its rightful owners in return for direct flights.

The likelihood of this happening is a million to one and you know it, you went of on a hissy fit about what we call things instead of accepting my offer, my question was do you feel GCs would support such a move, I personally doubt it very much and is why I think we will never agree a solution.

Nobody ca expect any Cypriot, whether Turkish or Greek even Armenian Cypriots to forget anything. Humanly impossible. What we have to look forward to is ' can we get on with our lives together?'

Fro your past posts I see that you will never forget what you went through during yor chilhood. Others too have had similar or worse experiences. What do we do? live apart with hatred?

Dont forget that 'winding up' in whatever form has been going on for a long time. Then there comes a time that it gets too painful. Do you think I dont feel pain whenever you 'wind us up?' or 'talk down to us?'.
